The Aledo Bearcat Varsity Baseball team enters the 2011 season loaded with returning position players, but a lot of question makes about the pitching staff. All four starting pitchers from last season were lost to graduation. The Bearcats return six position starters from last season, five of whom made the All-District team. Below is a preview of the team going into the 2011 season:
Note: 1L means one year of varsity experience.
The Aledo Ladycats basketball team fell to Stephenville 59-52 in overtime tonight in the area championship game in Mineral Wells. Aledo lost senior star Logan Mittie to a knee injury early in the game.
The Aledo Ladycats put up a valiant fight without their star warrior Logan Mittie and forced overtime in a 59-52 loss to the Stephenville Honeybees. Mittie went down with 6:25 to play in the second quarter and Aledo up 17-9. The Ladycats went into the locker room with a 24-21 lead and a lot of concerned faces over their fallen leader.
Hannah Loftin and Mallory kept the Ladycats in the lead going into the fourth quarter. Loftin, who led Aledo with 19, hit two three-pointers in the third and Powell also scored six. The Ladycats held a 38-37 lead going into the fourth quarter.

James Albritton - Saltforkimages.com: Aledo junior midfielder Kyle Underwood controls the ball against Azle in action on Tuesday, Feb. 15.In recent years the Azle Hornets had been something of a doormat for the Bearcats in district play, but Tuesday night they were clearly ready to change that. They attacked quickly and, within the first minute, had their first corner and first shot on goal–but senior goalkeeper Justin Breshears was not in the mood. He slapped the ball away authoritatively and it was cleared by sophomore defender Willie Maloney.
Anything can happen in the playoffs. Just ask the Brenham Cubs in the 2010 football season. They were the highest ranked team behind Aledo in Class 4A going into the football playoffs. They lost in bi-district.
With four teams making the playoffs in each district, the Texas UIL divides the 164 teams making the playoffs into four Regions. Aledo is in Region I. Within the 32 teams in Region I, the teams are divided into a bracket with the top half containing 16 teams and the bottom half having 16 teams. The winner of the top half plays the winner of the bottom half for the right to represent their region at the State Basketball Tournament in Austin on March 3 and 4.
ESPN would call this game an “Instant Classic”. Aledo and Ft. Worth Dunbar are two of the best Class 4A teams in North Texas. Both teams slugged it out in a physical game played at Saginaw High School Tuesday night. Aledo was the last team standing in a dramatic 58-54 come-from-behind victory.
Things looked bleak for Aledo when Destiny Price hit a three for the Lady Wildcats to put Dunbar up by nine 52-43 with only 4:25 left to play in the game.
Senior Logan Mittie went to work in the fourth quarter scoring 11 points on one three-pointer and eight for eight free throw shooting in crunch time. Mittie led all scorers with 26. Mallory Powell added 13 and Alana Martin 10.
The Aledo Ladycats came from nine points behind with a little more than four minutes left in the game to take a 58-54 bi-district win over Fort Worth Dunbar tonight. Watch this Web site for more details.

The Aledo Bearcats finished up the 2010-2011 basketball with a home loss to the Brewer Bears 49-37. Aledo dug a deep hole in the first half. The only Bearcat points in the first quarter came from a Taylor Johnson three-pointer. Johnson, a freshman, finished the night leading the team with 11 points.
The second quarter saw Aledo score only nine points. The only other Bearcats scoring in the first half besides Johnson were Pierce Gentry with two and a basket by Todd Christian. On a night when Aledo honored the seniors, they were shut out in the first half. The Bearcats went into halftime down by 18, 30-12.
Bearcats 51 Birdville 55
Coming into Friday night’s contest against the Birdville Hawks, Aledo was tied for third place in the district. A win by the Bearcats would have given the Bearcats the tie-breaker edge over Birdville for a playoff spot. The Hawks took advantage of their home court to win 55-51 and just about eliminate Aledo from the playoffs.
Aledo fell behind early as Birdville made five three-pointers and led by ten after the first quarter. The Aledo defense kicked in and only allowed the Hawks 14 points in the second and third quarters. On the offensive end, Danny Glass was on fire all night finishing with 21 points.
