The Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League announced today (Thursday, May 27) the signing of four wide receivers, including former Aledo Bearcats and TCU Horned Frogs receiver Ryan Christian.

The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that it has signed the following import receivers:
WR Ryan Christian (Texas Christian)
WR/KR Jerome Hewitt (Southeastern Oklahoma State)
WR Charles Owens (Eastern Illinois)
WR Derek Stanley (Wisconsin-Whitewater)
First recruited to play at TCU as a running back, Ryan Christian converted to receiver as a junior then moved there fulltime as a senior in 2009.
In his final year, he finished fourth on the team with 24 catches.
Eight other Bearcats earn all-district honors
Aledo senior pitcher Calvin Loftis earned a top All-District 6-4A honor and eight other Bearcats were recognized on the district's first or second team in a vote of 6-4A coaches.
Loftis was selected Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year, while classmate Austin Vassberg was voted to the first team at pitcher.
Other Bearcats on the first team include senior outfielder Nils Smith, junior infielder Zach Scott and junior catcher Lawton Rinker.
Earning second-team honors from Aledo were senior pitcher Ryan Talley, sophomore shortstop Matthew Bishop and junior outfielders Rylan Riney and Sean O'Donnell.
Late Aledo rally in game three falls short as Lake Dallas moves on after 4-2 win
Aledo scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning but the rally fell short as Lake Dallas defeated the Bearcats, 4-2, to win the third and deciding game of a Class 4A bi-district playoff series Saturday afternoon at Saginaw High School.
Senior Ryan Conn took the loss for AHS, while Brandon Cogbill was the winning pitcher for the Falcons, who will advance to the area round against Mansfield Legacy.
The Bearcats trailed 4-1 as the game moved to the bottom of the sixth inning. Aledo loaded the bases with one out as Sean O'Donnell swatted a single and Austin Lawler and Rylan Riney each drew a walk.
Deciding third game at 2 p.m. Saturday (May 8) at Saginaw High School
The Aledo Bearcats had at least one runner on base in every inning but failed to score as Lake Dallas defeated AHS, 4-0, to knot up their best-of-three bi-district playoff series at a game apiece Friday night in Corinth.
The third and deciding game of the series will be played at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, May 8) at Saginaw High School.
Jonny Drozd earned the win with a complete-game effort, while Calvin Loftis took the loss.
The Bearcats had two runners on base in each of the first and second innings but failed to push a run across the plate. Matt Bishop and Lawton Rinker each singled in the opening frame with one out, but Drozd retired the next two Aledo batters to get out of the jam.

Aledo junior Sean O'Donnell smashed a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the 10th inning that drove in Nils Smith and Zack Scott as the Bearcats came from behind to defeat Lake Dallas in 10 innings, 3-2, Thursday night in the opening game of a Class 4A, best-of-three bi-district playoff series at Bearcat Field.
The Aledo Bearcats will face the Lake Dallas Falcons in a Class 4A, Region I, best-of-three bi-district baseball playoff series beginning Thursday, May 6, in Aledo.
Game one will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bearcat Field. Game two will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Lake Dallas.
Game three, if necessary, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Saginaw High School.
Tickets at each venue will be $5 for adults and $3 for students. District 5-4A, District 6-4A and THSCA passes will be accepted.

The Ladycats earned two other top honors as sophomore Kaci Brann was chosen co-Pitcher of the Year and head coach Jeff Lemons was selected co-Coach of the Year.
Aledo junior right fielder Carolyn Clayton, sophomore pitcher Kacie Brann and first-year head coach Jeff Lemons each picked up top All-District 6-4A awards and seven other Ladycats received 6-4A honors in a vote of league coaches.

Aledo to face Lake Dallas in bi-district playoffs
Boswell scored eight unanswered runs on its way to an 8-3 win over the Aledo Bearcats Saturday night in a District 6-4A second-place tiebreaker game at Saginaw High School.
The Bearcats will assume the district's third seed and play Lake Dallas - the second seed from District 5-4A - next week in a best-of-three bi-district playoff series. Bi-district playoffs begin on Thursday, May 6.
