Rhylie Makawe and Megan Mason each swatted a home run to lead the Aledo Ladycats to a 12-2 victory over Byron Nelson Thursday night in game one of a best-of-3 area championship softball series at the AHS softball field.
Lauren Craine got the win in the circle for AHS, limiting the high-scoring Lady Bobcats to six hits.
The Ladycats scored three runs in first and added six in the second. Three of the runs in the second inning came on a three-RBI triple by Tori Gore.
Makawe and Mason's blasts occurred in the Ladycats' three-run third inning.
Craine retired three of four batters in the top of the fifth as the game was called on run rule.
Game two will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Byron Nelson High School.

Aledo High School's Cheyenne Knight won the girls' Class 4A state golf tournament by shooting a 70 today (April 29) in Austin at UT Golf Club for a 36-hole total of 144.
The Ladycasts as a team finished in fourth place.

Both will be a best-of-3 series format.
The state-ranked No. 9 Ladycats will face Trophy Club Byron Nelson in a Class 4A, Region I area series. Game one will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Aledo, with game two scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Byron Nelson. Game three, if necessary, will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday at Byron Nelson.
The Bearcats will face Crowley in a Class 4A, Region bi-district series. Game one will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Crowley, with game two set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Aledo. Game three, if necessary, will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at Aledo.
Aledo's Brittney Trought won the girls' 100- and 300-meter hurdles and ran a leg of the Ladycats state-qualifying 4x100 sprint relay team, and Bearcats sprinter Ryan Newsome won the boys' 100-meter dash Saturday at the Class 4A, Region I track meet in Abilene.
Danielle Trought also qualified for the state meet with a second-place finish in the girls' 100-meter hurdles.
The top two finishers at the regional meet qualify for the state meet in Austin.
Brittney Trought and Danielle Trought teamed up with Peyton Lambert and Kia Jordon to place second and qualify for state in the girls' sprint relay (4x100).
The Class 4A state track and field meet will be held Friday, May 9, at Mike Meyers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin.

State-bound Aledo High School athletes in golf and tennis were given a sendoff by the AHS students Friday afternoon at the school. Shown leading the parade of the state-bound athletes are Logan Lambert, Erik Meendsen, Savannah Moody and Taryn Pittman. Students lined the AHS hallway between the gym and front entrance, and the cheerleaders cheered and the band played the fight song throughout the procession. The AHS teams will play in their respective state tournaments beginning Monday in Austin.
The District 7-4A softball champion Aledo Ladycats will face Crowley at home on Friday, April 25 in a Class 4A, Region I bi-district playoff game.
The first pitch will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Aledo High School softball field.
The winner of the Aledo/Crowley bi-district playoff game will face the winner of the Byron Nelson/Chisholm Trail bi-district playoff series in the area round.
