Bishop accounts for three touchdowns, 296 total yards in win over rival Stephenville
Aledo junior quarterback Matt Bishop passed for 218 yards and a touchdown and gained a team-high 78 yards on the ground while scoring twice to lead the No. 2 Bearcats to a convincing 20-3 victory over the No. 4 Stephenville Yellowjackets Friday night in the season opener at Bearcat Stadium.
Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Aledo ISD will provide shuttles for this week's home-opening football game against Stephenville High School. Due to the expected overflow amount of traffic, buses will run between Willow Park Baptist Church and Bearcat Stadium, and between Aledo United Methodist Church and Bearcat Stadium.
Pick-up and drop-off schedules will hold true for both Willow Park Baptist Church, located at 129 S. Ranch House Road in Aledo, and Aledo United Methodist Church, at 313 Pecan St.

Ladycats roll to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-12 road victory
The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team raised its record to 11-6 after a convincing 25-15, 25-16, 25-12 sweep over Denton Guyer Tuesday night (Aug. 24) in a non-district match at Guyer.
Still on the road in non-district play, the Aledo Ladycats volleyball team will play today (Tuesday, Aug. 24) at Denton Guyer.
The freshman and junior varsity contests will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Ladycats (9-6) will play at the Fredericksburg tournament this weekend before finally playing its home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 31, against Stephenville.
Aledo scored five touchdowns in the controlled portion of its scrimmage at Burleson Friday night (Aug. 20) and scored four more times during the timed portion as the Bearcats completed their final tune-up before next week's season opener against Stephenville.
The 2009 Class 4A state champion Bearcats will open their season at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, at home against rival Stephenville.
Against Burleson in the controlled portion of the practice game, junior all-state running back Johnathan Gray scored on touchdown runs of 53 and 70 yards, and he caught a 10-yard TD pass from junior quarterback Matt Bishop.
The defending Class 4A state champion Aledo Bearcats will travel to Burleson today (Friday, Aug. 20) in a scrimmage game that will be the final tune-up before next week's season opener at home against Stephenville.
The freshman scrimmage will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the junior varsity scrimmage at 5 p.m. and the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m. at Elk Stadium.

Ladycats win key road match, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17
Paced by a quick front row and resilient back row, the Aledo Ladycats swept Class 4A No. 5 Red Oak, 25-15, 25-21, 25-17, Tuesday night (Aug. 17) in a non-district volleyball match at Red Oak.
The win raises the Ladycats overall mark to 6-3. Aledo will play next at the Northwest ISD tournament, which runs Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20-21.
The Aledo Ladycats will continue non-district volleyball action today (Tuesday, Aug. 17) at Class 4A state-ranked No. 5 Red Oak.
The freshman and junior varsity games will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The Ladycats (5-3) won four of six games last weekend at the grapevine tournament.
Red Oak played a dual last night (Monday, Aug. 16), defeating Mansfield Legacy in four games and sweeping North Crowley.
The Ladycats home opener will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, against Stephenville.
Chad Owens caught two TD passes while Ryan Christian returned a kickoff a club-record 110 yards for another as the surprising Toronto Argonauts stunned the Montreal Alouettes 37-22 at Rogers Centre on Saturday night (Aug. 14), according to the Argonauts Web site (www.argonauts.ca).
Christian is a first-year player from TCU and a former Aledo Bearcat.
According to the Web site, Christian electrified the season-high Rogers Centre gathering of 22,311 at 2:08 of the second quarter, a play after Montreal had pulled to within 14-7.

The Aledo Ladycats finished their first tournament of the season by sweeping pool play and winning one of three bracket games today (Saturday, Aug. 14) at the Grapevine tournament.
The Ladycats (5-3) will play next at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Class 4A No. 5 Red Oak.
The Ladycats opened bracket play today with a loss to The Colony, followed with a victory over Cleburne and fell to McKinney this afternoon.
On Friday in pool play, Aledo defeated Frisco Liberty, Richland and Arlington Sam Houston.
