CHICAGO, Ill. - Southwest Baptist University and former Aledo Bearcat kicker Andrew Kocurek has been nominated for the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Placekicker Award. Kocurek is one of 32 kickers in NCAA Football Championship Series (formerly called Division II, III, and NAIA) football to be nominated for the award.
Kocurek, a freshman from Aledo, TX and the starting kicker on Aledo's 2009 state championship team, is one of just two freshman to be nominated for the award, and is the lone nominee from the state of Missouri. Kocurek has 30 points on the year from a pair of field goals and 24 out of 26 extra points. Against William Jewell, Kocurek made a 47-yard field goal, the longest by a Bearcat since 2003.

Scrappy Azle came into Tuesday night's District 5-4A match against the first-place Aledo Ladycats determined to knot up the district race.
The Lady Hornets show determination on defense, but still could not handle the potent Ladycat middle hitters as senior Jordan Jacobs and sophomore Breana Sharratt combined for 22 kills to lead Aledo past Azle, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20, in district action at the Aledo High School gym.
The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to a sparkling 6-0, while the Lady Hornets drop to 4-2. State-ranked No. 14 Aledo (24-8) will continue district play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at rival Springtown (5-1).

Azle brings 4-1 record into match against No. 14 Ladycats
The Azle Lady Hornets will buzz into Aledo Tuesday night in hopes on knotting the District 5-4A race.
First serve will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Aledo High School gym.
The Ladycats (23-8) will bring a 5-0 record into the district match, while Azle sits a match back with Springtown as both teams are at 4-1.

Aledo junior running back Johnathan Gray rushed for 232 yards on 20 carries and reached the end zone five times to pace an offensive attack of 591 total yards as the state-ranked No. 1 Bearcats had little trouble in a 64-0 victory over the Keller Timber Creek Falcons Friday night at Bearcat Stadium on Homecoming Night.
The win - in the District 5-4A opener for both teams - raises the Bearcats overall record to 4-0.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 5-0, tops in 5-4A. Aledo will continue league action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at home against Azle.
