Aledo Bearcats

Aledo junior running back Johnathan Gray rushed for 232 yards on 20 carries and reached the end zone five times to pace an offensive attack of 591 total yards as the state-ranked No. 1 Bearcats had little trouble in a 64-0 victory over the Keller Timber Creek Falcons Friday night at Bearcat Stadium on Homecoming Night.
The win - in the District 5-4A opener for both teams - raises the Bearcats overall record to 4-0.

Aledo sophomore middle Briana Sharratt recorded a match-high 11 kills and senior middle Jordan Jacobs added nine stoppers and a match-high four blocks to lead the state-ranked No. 14 Ladycats to a 25-10, 25-7, 25-25 victory over Keller Timber Creek Friday afternoon in District 5-4A action at the AHS gym.
The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 5-0, tops in 5-4A. Aledo will continue league action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at home against Azle.

Aledo senior middle Jordan Jacobs had a match-high 15 kills and four blocks and senior outside hitter Christa Daniel added 12 stoppers to help the state-ranked No. 14 Ladycats to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-17 victory over Boswell Tuesday night in District 5-4A volleyball action at Boswell.
The win raises the Ladycats district mark to 4-0. Aledo is alone in first place after Nelson defeated Azle. The Ladycats have a one-match lead over Azle (3-1) and Springtown (3-1).
Aledo (22-8) will continue 5-4A play at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at home against Keller Timber Creek.

Four Aledo hitters combined for 35 kills and sophomore setter Mallory Powell dished out 37 assists to lead the Ladycats to a convincing 25-10, 25-16, 25-19 victory over Trophy Club Byron Nelson Tuesday night in a District 5-4A match at the AHS gym.
The win raises the Ladycats overall mark to 20-8 and 2-0 in district play. Aledo will continue 5-4A play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at Brewer.
Senior outside hitter Christa Daniel led all hitters with 12 kills, senior middle Jordan Jacobs added 10, junior outside hitter Tyler Gromann recorded seven and sophomore middle Briana Sharratt finished with six.
Jacobs led all hitters with four blocks, with Sharratt adding three. Defensively, senior libero Taylor Brown registered a match-high 15 digs.
Fresh off a sweep last Friday over Birdville, the Aledo Ladycats will host Trophy Club Byron Nelson today (Tuesday, Sept. 14) in a District 5-4A volleyball match at 6:30 p.m. at the Aledo High School gym.
The state-ranked No. 11 Ladycats (19-8, 1-0) will face a Nelson team (0-1) seeking its first district win.
The junior varsity and freshman matches will begin at 5:30 p.m.
In other 5-4A action on Tuesday, Springtown (1-0) will travel to Boswell (1-0); Azle (1-0) is at Keller Timber Creek (0-1); and Birdville (0-1) hosts Brewer (0-1).

The Bearcats (3-0), who jumped to No. 1 from the No. 2 spot after defeating previous No. 1 Lake Travis, 14-10, Friday night (Sept. 10) at Lake Travis, secured 24 of a possible 25 first-place votes.
Lake Travis (2-1), which saw a 48-game winning streak come to an end, dropped to the No. 4 spot.
Previous No. 3 Brenham, the 2009 DII finalist, moved up to the No. 2 spot, while Denton Ryan moved up a spot to No. 3.
