The Good News Issue will be loaded with features from around the community.
Aledo (15-0) and La Marque (12-3) are mirror images in a lot of respects. Both teams have a rich tradition of going deep into the playoffs. Aledo is seeking its third state title and second Class 4-A Division II title in a row.
La Marque has not advanced to the championship game since 2006, but is making its tenth trip overall seeking its sixth state crown. It wasn’t easy for the Cougars to get into the playoffs in tough District 24-4A. La Marque was the final playoff team in Division II to make the playoffs, and the only team still standing. Schools from District 24-4A have combined for a 14-3 record during the Class 4-A playoffs. Friendswood was knocked out by Lake Travis in the state semi-finals in Division I.
We are almost under way. The anthem has been played and the Bearcats are set to recieve...the path to State has been paved!
Aledo punts it away after 1 first down. Poteet takes over at their own 20.
The defense stops Poteet on their first possesion. Cunningham muffs the punt but he does recover. Aledo takes over at their own 22 yard line.
Poteet forces another punt as Aledo's offense has yet to get going. The Pirates take over at their own 28.
Poteet missed a 37 yard field goal to give the ball to Aledo on their own 20 yard line.
As the 1st quarter turns to the 2nd, Aledo is forced to punt again. The ball does land inside the 5, so if Aledo holds here they will have great field position.

Aledo star running back Johnathan Gray can now associate his name with the great Tom Landry. Gray was presented with the Tom Landry Award for being the best high school football player in North Texas. The award, in its first year of presentation, is awarded to players that excell on and off the field.
Gray and Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan were handed the bronze award live on TXA 21 Thursday night. The award is a replica of Landry's signature fedora.

Aledo’s opponent in the Class 4A state semi-final game in Mansfield is a surprise to almost everyone except Head Coach Randy Jackson. The once powerful Mesquite Poteet Pirates were a combined 1-19 over the past two seasons. Jackson completed an extreme makeover in the matter of a few months and transformed the Pirates into a powerful football team.
Poteet is 13-2 and has mowed down some pretty impressive teams this season. They play in one of the toughest districts in the area with Corsicana, West Mesquite, Waxahachie, and Ennis among others.
