Aledo ISD athletic director Tim Buchanan has announced that Fred Jones was named head boys basketball coach at Aledo High School.
Jones comes to Aledo after four successful years as the head girls basketball coach at Flower Mound Marcus High School.
“I believe that Coach Fred Jones will bring his state championship experience to Aledo and raise the boys’ basketball program to the next level,” Buchanan said.
Jones recorded a 103-35 overall record at Marcus from 2011-2015, leading the Marauders to the Class 5A Region 1 semifinals in 2013 and the program’s first-ever undefeated District Championship in 2014.
Schedules have been set for the Aledo Ladycats regional semifinal softball series and the Bearcats regional quarterfinals baseball series.
The Bearcats will face Birdville in a best-of-3 regional quarterfinals series beginning Thursday, with all games being played at Northwest High School.
Game one will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21, with game two set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 22.
Game three, if necessary, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23.
The Ladycats will face Canyon in a best-of-3 regional semifinals series, with all games being played at Hermleigh High School.
Game one will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Game two will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, with game three, if necessary, to follow game two.
Wichita Falls Rider scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and the Raiders added an insurance tally in the fifth to come away with a 3-0 win over the Aledo Bearcats Thursday night at Brock in game one of a Class 5A, Region I best-of-3 area championship series.
Game two will be played at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Henrietta High School.
Game three, if necessary, will follow game two.
The Bearcats out hit Rider, 5-4, but Aledo stranded 13 runners on base.
Aledo left two men on base at the end of the first, third and fourth innings, and left the bases loaded in the second.

Playing it safe with two “home neutral” locations that are equipped with weather-friendly field turf, the Aledo Bearcats and Wichita Falls Rider Raiders will square off in a best-of-3 area championship baseball series beginning today.
Game one will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Brock High School.
Game two will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Henrietta High School, with game three, if necessary, to follow.
Rider is the No. 1 seed from District 5-5A.
Bearcats head coach Chad Barry said the strength of the Raiders is a deep pitching rotation, led by left-handed ace Alec Lemon.
He said offensively Rider has patience at the plate and tries to take advantage of its speed on the base paths.
Aledo senior Mary Myers swatted three hits and classmate Ashton Adkins added a home run as the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats recorded 16 hits en route to a 15-0 victory over Burleson Friday night in a regional quarterfinal playoff at Colleyville Heritage High School.
The Ladycats will advance to next week's regional semifinals and face the winner of the Lubbock Cooper/Canyon regional quarterfinal series.
The Cooper/Canyon best-of-three series will be played Friday and Saturday.
Lauren Craine was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in a game called by mercy rule after five innings.
Paced by a two-run single by Chickie Cook, the Ladycats scored six runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Aledo head softball coach Jeff Lemons has announced that the Aledo Ladycats/Burleson regional quarterfinal playoff game has been moved up to Tuesday.
The Ladycats and Lady Elks will now play their one-game regional quarterfinal playoff series at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Colleyville Heritage High School.
The playoff game was originally scheduled for Thursday at L.D. Bell.
According to the latest weather.com forecast, the chance of rain in the area is 100 percent on Wednesday, 80 percent on Thursday and 80 percent through the weekend.
"We are moving up the game to try and avoid the rain," Lemons told The Community News. "And as such we had to move the game to Colleyville Heritage."
Aledo senior Ashton Adkins hit a key two-run double in the seventh inning to break open a tight game as the state-ranked No. 1 Ladycats held off Brewer, 6-3, Friday night in a one-game area playoff in front of an overflow crowd at the Chisholm Trail High School softball field.
The Ladycats will advance to the regional quarterfinals and face district-rival Burleson. Check this site later for details of the third-round playoff.
Aledo led 4-2 going into the final frame. In the top of the seventh inning, Riley Sartain reached on an error and was sacrificed to second base by clean-up hitter Chickie Cook.
Sartain advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and the next batter, Kadyn Kirkpatrick, walked. Kirkpatrick promptly stole second base giving AHS runners on second and third.
The Class 5A state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladycats will continue their title defense today when they face Brewer in a one-game area playoff.
The first pitch will be at 7 p.m. today at the Chisholm Trail High School softball field.
The Ladycats (15-0) are the first-place team from District 8-5A and Brewer (17-6) is the second-place team from District 5-5A.
Tickets at the gate are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
"We are really excited to play Brewer," Ladycats senior pitcher Lauren Craine said. "In the past we have struggled against them, and I think they are pretty confident.
