For the state-ranked No. 3 Aledo Ladycats, it is a district-championship match.
The first-place Ladycats, 7-0 in District 8-5A, will take on No. 11 Granbury (6-1) in a match that will either tie up first place in the district or give the Ladycats the path they need to clinch the league championship.
The match is set for 6:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, Oct. 7) at James Wann Sports Center at Granbury High School.
The first time these two teams met was Sept. 12 in the district opener at Aledo. The Ladycats took the first game, 25-21, but the Lady Pirates rallied to take a 25-19 win in game two and won game three, 25-21, and were one game away from winning the match.

Bearcats turn close game into 55-27 rout of Burleson Centennial

October 3, 2014 by Tony Eierdam

Tied 20-20 at the half Friday night in a key District 8-5A match up, Aledo scored on its first possession of the second half and never looked back as the Class 5A state-ranked No. 1 Bearcats ran past the Centennial Spartans, 55-27 at Burleson ISD Stadium.

The win raises the Bearcats' district mark to 2-0, while Centennial falls to 1-1.
"I am proud of the way the guys came back," Bearcats head coach Steve Wood said. "They didn't panic at the half."

"The defense stayed with their assignments better in the second half, and the offense began to click."

Aledo senior quarterback Luke Bishop directed a seven-play, 44-yard touchdown drive to begin the second half, a drive that was finished by a leaping, one-yard dive by senior tailback Jess Anders. Ben Rogers booted the extra point as Aledo took a 27-20 lead.

The Bearcats defense, which was stunned by three Centennial trips to the end zone in the first half, clamped down and forced a three and out on the Spartans' first possession of the second half.

It took the Bearcats just one play to find the end zone. Bishop tossed a bubble-screen pass to Anders on the right side and he sprinted past four would-be tacklers down the right sideline to the end zone to complete a 46-yard play with 6:13 left in the third quarter. Rogers' kick extended the AHS advantage to 34-20.

The next Bearcats TD drive came courtesy of a fumble recovery by Wyatt Young.

James Albritton/Salt Fork Images: Aledo senior running back Jess Anders accelerates through a huge hole Friday night during the Bearcats 68-6 victory over Joshua in the District 8-5A opener at Bearcat Stadium. Anders recorded touchdown runs of 23 and 8 yards.

Aledo senior receiver Toby Gray began the 2014 season at linebacker, but recently was moved to a wide-out spot as coaches looked to take advantage of his height and athletic ability.

And in only his second game starting at receiver, Gray, who also returns kickoffs, scored all four times he touched the ball to help the state-ranked No. 1 Bearcats to a 68-6 win over the Joshua Owls Friday night in the District 8-5A opener at Bearcat Stadium.

The win raises the Bearcats overall record to 3-1.

"I was shocked when I was moved from linebacker to receiver," Gray said.
"But Coach (Steve) Wood is a smart man, and he knows what he is doing.
"I had a lot of fun out there tonight."

Gray ran back the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, and freshman Carson White booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
