Holding their playoff destiny in their own hands, the Aledo Ladycats can clinch a playoff spot with a win over first-place Burleson today in the girls' District 8-5A finale on Senior Night at the AHS gym.
A victory by the Ladycats would give Aledo nine district wins and would seal at least fourth place. If Joshua defeats Cleburne and the Ladycats win Aledo would finish in third place
Needing a win to claim second place, the Aledo Ladycats fell short in a 60-47 loss to Crowley Friday night in a District 8-5A contest at Crowley.
The loss drops the Ladycats to 8-5 and in a third-place tie with Cleburne in district play, while Crowley moves to 10-3.
The Ladycats will conclude district play on Tuesday at home against first-place Burleson.
Two Ladycats achieved a double double as Rhylie Makawe scored a team-high 19 points and collected 10 rebounds, and Rebekah Hissam added 11 points with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Crowley led 12-10 after the first quarter and 25-24 at the half. The Lady Eagles outscored the Ladycats 15-11 in the third period to take a 40-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

With a chance to not only sweep the season series but also to grab second place outright, the Aledo Ladycats basketball team will travel to Crowley for a 6:30 p.m. start in a key District 8-5A match up.
The Ladycats bring an 8-4 district mark into the contest. Although Crowley sits now at 9-3, a win by Aledo would give both teams a 9-4 record but Aledo would maintain control of second place due to a season sweep.
After a dramatic ceremony on Jan. 23 at the Aledo High School auditorium, Aledo "four star" recruit Ryan Newsome announced he would play football at UCLA.
However, in the wee morning hours of today Newsome called UCLA coaches and informed them he will instead play football beginning next fall at the University of Texas, joining former Bearcat All-American Johnathan Gray.
In a statement released to the media, Newsome said he had a change of heart when Texas head coach Charlie Strong "kept after me" after the receiver announced he was going to UCLA.
Newsome also said the change of heart happened when he realized it would be easier for his family to watch him play in Austin for the Longhorns.
Everman rebounded an Aledo three-pointer as time expired as the Bulldogs survived with a 51-48 win over the Bearcats Tuesday night in a District 8-5A contest at Everman.
The Bearcats built a 20-9 lead and had a 28-23 advantage at the half.
Aledo led 39-38 as the game moved to the fourth quarter before Everman took a lead with two minutes left that it would not relinquish.
The loss drops the Bearcats to 4-6 in 8-5A.
Ladycats 47, Everman 34
Aledo jumped out to a 13-2 lead and never looked back as the Ladycats ran past Everman, 47-34, in a District 8-5A game Tuesday night at Everman.
The win raises the Ladycats district mark to 8-4.

Avenging an earlier 39-point loss, the Aledo Bearcats held off a late Burleson Centennial come back to down the Spartans, 65-59, Friday night in a District 8-5A contest at the AHS gym.
The win - Aledo's third in a row - elevates the Bearcats district mark to 4-5, while Centennial drops to 5-4.
The Bearcats led 31-26 at the half and at one point in the third quarter had a 12-point advantage before taking a 43-35 lead into the fourth period.
Braxton McCoy scored 21 points, Cam Caldwell added 15 and Dawson Gates finished with 10 to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a convincing 61-40 victory over Joshua Tuesday night in a District 8-5A basketball game at Joshua.
The win - Aledo's second in a row - raises the Bearcats' district mark to 3-5.
The Bearcats led 11-9 after the opening quarter and built a 25-16 lead at the half. Aledo scored 24 points in the fourth period to put the game away.
Also scoring for the Bearcats were Dakota Fischer with seven points and Bryson Power with five.
Joshua 46, Ladycats 43
Joshua came back from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit to pull out a 46-43 win over the Aledo Ladycats in a District 8-5A hoops contest Tuesday night at Joshua.
Aledo senior quarterback Luke Bishop scampers into the secondary during the state championship game. Bishop and six other Bearcats were selected to the Class 5A Padilla Poll Coaches all-state team.
Seven Aledo Bearcats from the 2014 state championship team earned all-state honors on the Class 5A Padilla Poll Coaches all-state team.
Also, head coach Steve Wood was named Padilla Poll Coaches Coach of the Year.
Six Bearcats - offensive lineman Hunter Harris, quarterback Luke Bishop, receiver Ryan Newsome, freshman defensive lineman James Williams, linebacker Garrett Uhl and defensive back Johnathan Durham - each earned first-team honors.
Aledo defensive back Patrick Peek earned second-team honors.
Both Aledo High School basketball teams defeated Cleburne in District 8-5A games played Friday night at Cleburne.
The Ladycats moved to 6-3 and in a tie for second place in 8-5A after a 46-39 victory over Cleburne (6-3). Kara Williams led the Ladycats with a career-high 21 points, including nine points in the second quarter to lead a 14-4 run.
The Aledo ladies trailed by four points as the game entered the fourth quarter, but the Ladycats went on a 15-4 run in the final stanza to seal the win.
The Ladycats dominated the boards as two players had more than 10 rebounds. Rhylie Makawe pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds with Rebekah Hissam grabbing 11 boards.
