Arlington Sam Houston went on a 21-8 run in the fourth quarter to erase a three-point deficit on its way to a 55-45 win over the Aledo Bearcats Tuesday night at the Moritz Auto Group Holiday Classic at the Aledo High School gym.
The loss gives the Bearcats (7-12, 1-0 in 8-5A) a 1-3 mark for the tournament.
Aledo will play next at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Burleson Centennial as the Bearcats continue district play.
The contest was a game of runs as Sam Houston raced out to an 11-2 lead in the opening period, but over the course of the end of the first quarter and into the second the Bearcats came back with a 21-4 run to take a 23-15 lead.
Sam Houston tied the score at 41-41 with 3:27 remaining and followed with a 14-4 run to seal the win.
Braxton McCoy scored 18 points, Bryson Power added 11 and Luke Bishop finished with 10 to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a 64-54 victory over Abilene High School Monday night at the Moritz Auto Group Holiday Classic at the Aledo High School gym.
The win advances the Bearcats to the consolation bracket semifinals. Aledo will play next at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the main AHS gym.
The Bearcats led 17-13 after the first quarter and 33-28 at the half.
Both teams scored 14 points in the third period as the Bearcats took a 47-42 lead into the fourth quarter.
Also scoring for Aledo were Dawson Gates and Cam Caldwell, each with eight points, Brevin McCoy with six and Dakota Fischer with three.

The Bearcats will continue tournament play at 7:30 p.m. today against Abilene at the AHS gym.
Braxton McCoy led the Bearcats with nine points, with Dawson Gates adding eight, including a pair of three-point buckets.
Aledo sophomore middle hitter Maddie Goings (13) earned first-team, all-state honors on the Texas Sports Writers Association volleyball team.
Two Ladycats - senior libero Tyler Lucas and senior outside hitter Madison Lopez - earned all-state, second-team honors.
Selected to the all-state, third team was sophomore setter Erin Weiss.
The Ladycats were the undefeated champions of District 8-5A and were state semifinalists.
It is said that football is a game of inches.
Make that 36 inches for the Aledo Bearcats.
Trailing 45-42 to Temple with less than a minute to play in the Class 5A, Division I state championship football game Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, the defending state champion Bearcats faced a fourth and one at the Temple 10.
The Bearcats had the option to try for a relatively-short 27-yard field goal to tie the contest and potentially send it to overtime, but first-year Bearcats head coach Steve Wood opted instead to go for the win.

Steve WoodAledo ISD superintendent Derek Citty announced shortly after the Class 5A, Division I state championship football game - won by Aledo 49-45 Saturday - that he is removing the “Interim” title by naming Steve Wood as the Aledo Bearcats permanent head football coach.
Wood, a longtime Aledo assistant and former defensive coordinator, was named Bearcats interim head football coach on July 31 when Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan stepped down after 21 years to concentrate on his athletic director duties.
Jumping out to an 11-0 lead and never looking back, the Aledo Bearcats ran past Joshua, 48-22, Friday night in the boys' District 8-5A basketball opener at the AHS gym.
In the night cap, the Ladycats came back from behind to force overtime before falling 57-53 to Joshua in the extra session.
The Bearcats begin district at 1-0, while the Ladycats fall to 1-2 in 8-5A.
