Scoring on the opening kickoff and on their following six first-half possessions, the Class 5A state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Bearcats ran past the Cleburne Yellowjackets, 63-28, in a District 8-5A contest at Cleburne.
With the win, the Bearcats (9-1) finish the 8-5A slate at 7-0 for their seventh consecutive undefeated district championship.
"I am not going to lie to you, it feels good," first-year Bearcats head coach Steve Wood said. "I am proud of these kids. They have come a long way.
"We got off to a hot start, and that was critical."
The Bearcats will advance to the Division I (big school) bracket and will face Fort Worth Trimble Tech in the bi-district round on Thursday, Nov. 13 at Chisholm Trail High School. Kickoff time has yet to be determined.
The Aledo Ladycats volleyball team has advanced to the regional quarterfinals and will face Lake Dallas.
The first serve will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Northwest High School.
The winner will advance to the regional tournament in Abilene.

In 11 of their past 15 matches before the second round of the playoffs, including the bi-district playoffs, the Aledo Ladycats have swept their opponents in overpowering fashion while advancing to the area playoffs.
On Thursday in an area playoff match at Jacksboro, the Ladycats once again won in a sweep, but it was much different than the previous 11.

The state-ranked No. 2 Aledo Ladycats now have their eye on the Class 5A playoffs after sweeping Burleson Centennial, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 Tuesday night at the AHS gym in the District 8-5A finale.
The win gives the Ladycats a 14-0 record in district play, while Centennial finishes at 8-6.
