No. 1 Ladycats to open District 8-5A softball season at home Saturday against Joshua

The state-ranked No. 1 Aledo Ladycats will host Joshua at 2 p.m. Saturday (March 7) in the District 8-5A softball opener at the AHS softball field.

It is a varsity-only game. The contest is a make-up game and was originally scheduled on Tuesday (March 3).

The Ladycats have yet to play any regular season games.

Their season opener at Rockwall on Feb. 24 was canceled due to weather, as was last week's tournament at Brewer.

Ladycats head coach Jeff Lemons had his team scheduled to play in the A&M Consolidated tournament in College Station this week, but ice storms canceled today's games.

El Paso Immanuel slips past TCA Lady Eagles, 36-34, in state semifinals

El Paso Immanuel held off the Trinity Christian Academy Lady Eagles, 36-34, Monday in a TCAF girls' state semifinal basketball game at Dallas Christian College.

The Lady Eagles will play in the state tournament third-place game at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at DCC.

Tylar Reynolds led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, while Tori Klahm added 10.

Also scoring for the Lady Eagles were Shelbi Tidwell with six points, and Faith Henning and Rachel Hollingsworth, each with two.

Meet the Bearcats/Ladycats tonight

Meet the Bearcats (Baseball) & Ladycats (Softball) will be tonight (Monday, May 2) at 6 p.m. at the Aledo High School Indoor Practice Facility. Varsity players from the two defending State Championship teams will be present to sign posters and meet the fans.

Makawe, Huddleston head list of six Ladycats earning All-District 8-5A hoops honors

Aledo senior Rhylie Makawe (above, No. 11)was selected as District 8-5A's co-Defensive Most Valuable Player and sophomore guard Cameron Huddleston earned first-team honors in a vote of league girls' basketball coaches.

Earning second-team honors from Aledo was junior post Rebekah Hissam, while junior guard Kara Williams and senior guards Treva Davis and Hannah Haeussler each earned honorable mentions.

Laticia Morgan of Crowley shared Defensive MVP honors with Makawe.

Mackenzie Haley of Burleson was voted 8-5A's MVP.

Aledo soccer matches to be made up today at Bearcat Stadium; AHS gym hosting hoops playoff games

The postponed District 8-5A soccer matches between Aledo and Burleson Centennial will be made up today at Bearcat Stadium.

The girls’ match will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m.

But there is other high school sports action today at Aledo High School.

At 6 p.m. at the AHS gym in a girls’ Class 4A regional quarterfinal game, Godley will face Stephenville, followed by a boys’ bi-district game at 8 p.m. between Godley and Springtown.

Tickets at the gym door are $4 for adults and $2 for students.

Ladycats win shootout to stay on top of 8-5A soccer standings; Hayes' late goal gives Bearcats 1-0 win

Aledo forward Sydney Laughley scored the game-winning goal in the shootout and Makenzie Covington came up with four saves in the extra session as the Ladycats defeated Joshua, 2-1, Friday night in a District 8-5A match at Joshua.

The "penalty-kick win" keeps the Ladycats in first place by two points over the second-place Lady Owls.

Sydney Barb and Peyton Laughley each scored a goal in the penalty kick session.

The Ladycats took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest when Peyton Laughley's shot from 12 yards out bounced off the right goal post, straddled down the goal line and spun into the net.

Joshua tied the scored six minutes into the second half as the game went scoreless from that point until the shootout that was won by Aledo, 3-2.

Meet The Ladycats, Bearcats Night will be Monday at AHS fields

The defending state-champion Aledo Ladycats softball team and the defending state-champion Aledo Bearcats baseball team will host "Meet The Ladycats and Bearcats Night" at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the AHS softball and baseball fields.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the AHS Indoor Facility.

The players will autograph posters, and boys and girls are welcome to bring balls that can be signed.

Bearcats close out season with 49-33 victory over Cleburne

Aledo senior post Nicholas Losos (32) fires a jumper during the Bearcats' 49-33 win over Cleburne Tuesday night at the AHS gym in the District 8-5A finale. Losos finished with a game-high eight rebounds.

Aledo guard Braxton McCoy scored 16 points and Dawson Gates and Brevin McCoy each added nine to lead the Bearcats to a convincing 49-33 victory over Cleburne Tuesday night in the District 8-5A finale at the AHS gym.

The Bearcats closed the season on a two-game winning streak and a final district mark of 6-8.

The Aledo Bearcats will conclude the 2014-15 basketball season at 6:30 p.m. today at home against Cleburne in the boys' District 8-5A finale.

Prior to tip off, Aledo seniors Braxton McCoy (above photo), Luke Bishop, Dawson Gates, Hunter Cox and Nicholas Losos will be honored on Senior Night.

No. 7 Trimble Tech eliminates Ladycats, 64-47

State-ranked No. 7 Fort Worth Trimble Tech raced out to a 20-10 lead and never looked back as the Lady Bulldogs ran past the Aledo Ladycats, 64-47, Monday night in a girls' Class 5A, Region I bi-district playoff basketball game at Chisholm Trail High School.

With the win, Trimble Tech will advance to the area round.

With a 10-point cushion to begin the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs (32-4) stretched their lead to 37-25 at the half.

But to begin the third quarter Aledo went on a 9-5 run - paced by six points from senior post Rhylie Makawe and a three-pointer from sophomore guard Cameron Huddleston - to cut Tech's lead to 42-34 with 4:10 remaining in the period.
