Sights and sounds from Aledo's bi-district win on Nov. 1, 2011 against Western Hills. Three volleys (one serve by Mallory Powell and two by Raygan McLelland), some bench chatter and Mallory Powell explainong her top serve (she served 11 staright points in game 2).
The Aledo Ladycats defeated Western Hills on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Wilkerson-Greines Center in Fort Worth in three straight games, 25-12, 25-13, 25-7. Aledo will play the winer of the Cleburne/Waco Midway match. Additional playoff details will be posted when available.

The Class AAAA Division II Bi-District Football Play-off Game between Fort Worth Dunbar and Aledo will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo. Pre-sell tickets will be $7 for adults and $5 for students. All tickets will be $8 at the gate.

Cross country runners Kandace Canaday and Colby Caldwell will represent Aledo at the regional cross country meet next weekend in Lubbock after qualifying at the District 5-4A Cross Country Meet at Tarrant County College Northeast on Saturday, Oct. 29. Canaday finished fifth in the girls meet, while Caldwell finished eighth in the boys meet. Full details of the cross country meet will be available in the Nov. 4 issue of The Community News.
The Aledo Racketcats ended their fall tennis season as undefeated district champions and a regional quarterfinalist.
At the regional tournament in Wichita Falls on Friday, Oct. 28, Aledo won the first round 10-0, but then lost to Burgess in the second round, 11-7.
Volleyball warmup
The Aledo Ladycats lost three games to 5A powerhouse Coppell on Friday, 18-25, 19-25, 19-25. The match was a warm-up for post-district play. Coppell is ranked seventh in the state in 5A.

Game Recap:
Aledo gets the ball first and Johnathan Gray scores from 60 yards on the opening play. Point is good and Aledo leads 7-0 with 15 seconds gone in the 1st quarter.
Birdville is forced to punt after a drive stalls and Aledo works from their 37 yard line. A nice drive with big plays from Michael Mann, Ben Jopling and a touchdown run from 3 yards out by Johnathan Gray and it's 14-0 Aledo with 4:19 left in the 1st.
Birdville fumbles at their 29 yard line and Jordan Mittie recovers it to get the Bearcats the ball back. Matt Bishop makes a first down then 3 carries by Johnathan, the last one for 7 yards and the touchdown. PAT is good and the Bearcats lead 21-0 with 2:05 left in the 1st quarter.
That touchdown ties Johnathan Gray with T.A. McClendon for second all time nationally in scoring.
On the next Birdville drive they move the ball all the way down the field, with only 1:01 off the clock, and score.
For the Aledo Ladycats, the volleyball season may just be getting started. After cruising to their second straight undefeated season, they will face tougher competition Friday when they play a warm-up game against 5A powerhouse Coppell at the Don R. Daniel Ninth Grade Center before facing Western Hills in bi-district action Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Wilkerson/Greines Fort Worth Activity Center. Both matches begin at 6:30 p.m.

Texas football legend Ken Hall visited Aledo High School today through a special arrangement with The Community News.
Hall, who still holds the national high school career yardage record, recently had a couple of his Texas records eclipsed by Aledo High School running back Johnathan Gray.
Hall came to Aledo to congratulate Gray for breaking his 58-year-old career scoring record during the Aledo-Timber Creek game on Sept. 22. (Click here for video of Gray's record-breaking touchdown.)
After a quiet meeting between Gray and Hall in Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan's office, Hall spoke to the Aledo football team before they went out to practice.
High school football legend Ken Hall spoke to Aledo High School football players before practice on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Hall still holds the high school career yardage record nationally, but Aledo's Johnathan Gray recently broke Hall's Texas career scoring record.

Schedules for Aledo freshman football games this week have changed. The Freshman Black team will play at Birdville High School at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The Freshman Orange team will play at Birdville at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. The JV Orange team will play Birdville at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
The JV Black team is still scheduled to play at Prosper High School at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26.
This week's varsity football game between Aledo and Birdville will be 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at Birdville ISD Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
