All Weatherford ISD campuses now equipped with 'Raptor' check-in system

August 23, 2011 by Anonymous

Dear WISD parents and community members,

In a continuing effort to provide a safe and secure environment for every student and staff member, all WISD campuses are now equipped with the Raptor Visitor Check-in System. This system has already been in place at Weatherford High School and is now being expanded to all other WISD schools. Raptor is a nationally proven system that has been used in numerous school districts throughout Texas and the country. This system allows campus administrators to have a more proactive visitor registration process during the school day. Raptor technology contains multiple methods to assist campus administrators in identifying individuals with a variety of legal issues that may pose a campus concern, including identifying registered sex offenders.

Weatherford ISD Superintendent Dr. Deborah Cron told staff members at Tuesday's Convocation that they were going to have to do more with less this school year because of a $3.2 million reduction in state funding (and an additional $1.2 million for 2012-13).

Dr. Cron said the theme of Tuesday's event was "hope," and she said to never give up.

Weatherford ISD Board Member Col. Kim Olson (Ret.)
Weatherford ISD Board Member Col. Kim Olson (Ret.) informed her cohorts and District administrators this evening that she would be leaving her seat on the Board effective Sept. 1.
Col. Olson said in her resignation letter that she and her husband, Kent, will be moving to Palo Pinto County to raise pecans on the family’s ranch. Weatherford ISD’s policy requires Trustees to reside within the school district.

“It has been an honor to serve the children, staff, and community of Weatherford ISD,” Col. Olson said. “The Board is a great team, and I am confident its members will continue focusing on what is best for students.”

Weatherford ISD eliminates extracurricular fee, hears preliminary budget discussion for 2011-12

August 15, 2011 by Anonymous

By Derek Moore

It’s official. Weatherford ISD’s extracurricular activity fee has been canceled.

The decision to eliminate the fee-based program came Thursday evening after Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations Tracy Ray assured Board members – as part of her 2011-12 preliminary budget report – that the District will have enough additional revenue to help offset the proposed $100,000 that the extracurricular fee was supposed to have generated.

“One of the main reasons the District will have a better-than-expected revenue for the 2011-12 school year is because of our students, employees, parents, partners, and community members,” Ray said. “They all stepped up to the plate and hit a home run when we needed it the most.”

Weatherford ISD drops convocation speaker, focuses on classroom

August 15, 2011 by Anonymous

Weatherford ISD administrators chose to forgo its annual tradition of hiring a motivational speaker for Tuesday’s convocation because they felt the money would be better served in the classroom.

The purpose of convocation is to help kick off the beginning of a new school year, but the District will be operating with $3.2 million less than it did last year because of state budget cuts.

“We want show our students, employees, parents, partners, and community members that we are good stewards of their taxpayer dollars,” Weatherford ISD Superintendent Dr. Deborah Cron said. “We have to get used to operating with a reduced budget because next year we will lose an additional $1.2 million in state funding.”

So, who will step in and take the place of a motivational speaker?
