WHS Vartisy Softball

Weatherford High School's varsity softball team ended its first half of district play with a perfect 7-0 record.

The players continued their streak by quickly defeating Arlington Sam Houston, 19-0, in 3 innings. Standouts offensively were junior Alison Gillard with two doubles and an RBI, junior Tyra Brunz with a double and an RBI, and freshman Elizabeth Konig with a double and 2 RBIs.

The Lady Roos' overall record is 14-9. They will travel to Crowley on Friday to play the North Crowley Lady Panthers. Game time is 5:30 p.m. for the varsity game and 7:30 p.m. for the junior varsity matchup.

WHS Blue Belles win National Championship in Galveston

Congratulations to the WHS BLUE BELLES for achieving National Champions at Showtime International National Dance/Drill Team Contest held this past weekend at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. The Belles team, officers and individuals competed along with 50 other teams and the awards are as follows:

Senior's Steer Places Fifth at Houston Livestock Show's Premium Auction

Weatherford FFA senior Rachel Bedinger hit the big time at the Houston Livestock Show by placing fifth with her Santa Gertrudis steer, Ranger. She sold her steer in the premium auction, where the Grand Champion brought $350,000.

Bedinger also is an active Weatherford FFA Member, Chapter President, Area V FFA Vice President, state qualifier in leadership and judging contests, and is running for State FFA Officer at the conclusion of this school year.Houston Livestock Show: Accompanying her to the Houston Livestock Show are her parents, Connis and Kittye Seedig, and Weatherford FFA Advisor, Amber Jennings (courtesy photo).

Lady Roos Take 2-of-3 Non-District Games Over Spring Break

Weatherford's Lady Roos varsity softball team won 2-of-3 non-district contests over spring break. They faced Burkburnett, Nolan Catholic, and Abilene Wylie.

The Lady Roos lost a hard fought game to Burkburnett, 3-2, in the eighth inning. They had a come-from-behind victory against Nolan Catholic off a game-winning homerun by senior Jordan Wallace to win it, 10-8. The Lady Roos also defeated Abilene Wylie 14-0.

Standout offensively for the Lady Roos was junior Alison Gillard who had a total of three extra-base hits and contributed offensively to both Lady Roo wins.

JV Softball Team Takes First at Mansfield Tournament

Congratulations to the Weatherford Lady Roos JV softball team for placing first in the March 12 Mansfield JV Tournament. Additional teams in the tournament included Mansfield Central, Mansfield Timberview, Keller Central, Keller High School, and South Grand Prairie.

All High School VASE Competitors Earn Medals, Three Advance to State Competition

Congratulations to the Weatherford High School art students who participated in the VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) competition March 5 atTimberview High School in Mansfield.

This is the first year ever that WHS was 100 percent on medalling in this event. Over 67 school districts from Region XI and over 1,800 art pieces were entered.

Also, three WHS students will advance to the state competition. They are Mathew League, Charlsie Rosander, and Barbara Swyryn.

WHS art instructors include Kathy Cunning and Diane Bolinger. Vase State Qualifiers

Lady Roos Shutout North Crowley, 10-0, in Wednesday's District 4-5A Opener

Weatherford's Lady Roos Varsity softball team shutout North Crowley's Lady Panthers, 10-0, Wednesday in the District 4-5A opener in Weatherford.

Following a slow start, the Lady Roos' bats woke up with the offense scoring four runs in the third inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Roos offense had another streak of hits to increase their lead 10-0.

The Lady Roos victory came from a total of eight hits, including doubles by Jordan Wallace and Chandler Spooner along with a triple by Makayla Baeza.

Wallace, also Weatherford's senior ace pitcher, had 14 strikeouts in only five innings of work.

Weatherford High School HOSA Students Qualify for State Following Area 5 Contest in Killeen

On Feb 18-19, the Health Science students in the HOSA student organization competed in the Area 5 HOSA Contest in Killeen Texas.

Patricia Hoffman, Health Science Instructor in her first year, has had excellent success preparing the students for this competition.

Hunter Dworsky placed third in the Physical Therapy contest and qualified for state. Brooke Morgan and Shelby Griffin placed fifth in the team event, Forensic Science, and were honorable mention. Shelbie Box placed third in the Sport Medicine contest.

Weatherford High School Auto Tech One of Six Schools Vying for $25,000 Makeover

Weatherford High School's auto technology department is one of only six finalist schools in the nation competing for a $25,000 grand prize.

Stephen Trainer, WHS Auto Technology instructor, said voting ends March 4 and his group is currently in fourth place with 657 votes (the first-place school currently has 2,475 votes).
