College to present "Bank Job"

February 13, 2015 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Sat, 02/21/2015 - 7:30pm

Just one simple bank job, how hard can it be?
This is the thought that propels the story in "Bank Job," a theatre production presented by the Weatherford College Fine Arts and Communications Department Feb. 19 through Feb. 21.
"Bank Job" debuted in February 2014 at the Amphibian Stage Productions Theater in Fort Worth, and WC drama instructor Nancy McVean was in the audience.
“I loved the production, and thought what fun it would be for my students to be a part of this exciting experience,” McVean said.
The production at WC will be the second time "Bank Job" has been produced for an audience.
Written by John Kolvenbach, "Bank Job" is the story of two brothers, Tracey and Russell, who attempt to strike it rich in armed robbery.

Weatherford College plans Messiah performance

November 21, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Mon, 12/01/2014 - 7:30pm

The much anticipated Weatherford College choir concert, selections from Handel’s Messiah, is scheduled Monday, Dec. 1, in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
“The college choir along with talented and enthusiastic singers from the community form the choir which will perform some of Messiah’s most notoriously challenging songs along with season’s favorites including ‘For Unto Us a Child is Born’ and ‘Hallelujah,’” said choir director Rob Laney.
The Messiah concert at WC began as a way to bring a piece of Dallas culture and arts to Parker County, Laney explained.

WC College jazz band to perform

November 12, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Thu, 11/20/2014 - 7:30pm

Jazz finds itself between “rock” and “hard bop” in the fall concert by the Weatherford College Jazz Band Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center.
The program will include jazz compositions representing jazz rock and hard bop, as well as the more traditional jazz swing style. While jazz rock enjoyed a relatively short period of popularity from the late 1960s through the mid-70s, hard bop proved more durable in its sustainability.
Jazz rock came into its own with the success of recordings by bands such as Blood, Sweat & Tears, whose 1969 hit "Spinning Wheel" will be performed by the WC Jazz Band.

College choir sets performance

November 10, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Tue, 11/18/2014 - 7:30pm

The Weatherford College choir will perform its fall concert, Love Songs: Human and Holy, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. Choir director Rob Laney said the concert is the choir’s most ambitious yet.
“It is full of poetic language, sweeping emotion and transcending entertainment,” Laney said. “The main work in the concert is a setting by contemporary composer John Corigliano of the Dylan Thomas poem Fern Hill which frames the biblical creation story in a warm agrarian setting. With some creative staging by the choir, this piece is not to be missed.”
The concert also showcases tunes from Sweden, Czechoslovakia and Norway and is rounded out with songs by Mendelssohn, Brahms and Lennon/McCartney.
