King of Ice Cream Mountain

The Weatherford College Touring Theatre Troupe will perform King of the Ice Cream Mountain for both the college stage and for local elementary schools. Performances in the Alkek Fine Arts Center are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, as well as 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Doors open a half hour prior to show time, and admission is free.

Written by Jerrold Mundis and Robert Leonard, King of the Ice Cream Mountain is an exciting combat between wicked Zeno (who tries to get control of all the ice cream in the world), Princess Happy and a delightful penguin named Muffles (who is turned into a wild dragon).

WC Foundation Golf Tournament

The 15th annual Weatherford College Foundation Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, Oct. 15, at Canyon West Golf Club. Tournament registration and lunch begin at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The entry fee is $85 per person or $325 per foursome. This fee includes lunch from Chicken Express, a golf gift, green fees, cart and a grilled burger dinner. For an extra $25, purchase a mulligan package of two mulligans and two raffle tickets.

Raffle items include sporting goods, electronics, restaurant gift certificates and more.

The Weatherford College Board of Trustees will hold a public tax hearing at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug 21 at the Board Room of the Mince Administrative Building in Weatherford.

Notice is hereby given that a public tax hearing of the Board of Trustees of Weatherford College will be held to consider and act on the following agenda:

1. Call to Order

2. Public Hearing on Tax Revenue Increase as Required by Section 26.05 of the Property Tax Code

3. Announce Date, Time, and Place for Meeting to Adopt 2015 Ad Valorem Tax Rate of $0.11364 ($0.10695 for Maintenance and Operations and $0.00669 for Debt Service) on August 27, 2015

4. Adjourn

Weatherford College fall musical auditions

Auditions for the Weatherford College fall musical "9 to 5" will take place in the Alkek Fine Arts Center at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13.

Auditions for this production are open to the public. All performers must have a reliable means of transportation, and there are no parts in this show available for anyone under age 16.

Lone Star Guitar Festival: Four days of classes, competition, concerts

A swarm of talented musicians will converge on Weatherford College for the Lone Star Guitar Festival and Competition.
Scheduled in the Alkek Fine Arts Center July 23-26, the four-day event will include a packed schedule of master classes, competition and concerts by some of the most talented guitarists around.
Canadian guitarist Emma Rush is one of many performers on the concert schedule for the weekend and is also the muse for the Weatherford event. After her good friend, WC guitar instructor Will Douglas, witnessed the success of the Hamilton International Guitar Festival in Ontario organized by Rush he was inspired to create a similar event at home.

Weatherford College to hold graduation

Some 350 graduates are expected to walk across the stage Saturday, May 9, after completing their associate’s degrees at Weatherford College.
Two ceremonies are planned for the Jerry Durant Auditorium at Weatherford High School to celebrate the success of these graduates. The 10 a.m. ceremony is for those graduating with an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Associate in Arts Teaching degrees. At 2 p.m. those earning their Associate in Applied Sciences and Certificate Program Completers will graduate.
This year’s highlighted speaker for both ceremonies is Tracey “Rocco” Davidson, 2015 Weatherford College Graduate and Student Body President.

WC jazz band sets spring gig

Jim Milan’s Bucket List Jazz Band is the featured guest at the Weatherford College Jazz Band spring concert Thursday, April 30.
The concert – What’s On Your Bucket List? – begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Alkek Fine Arts Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
