Parkinson's Support Group of Tarrant County Kick-Off luncheon, provided by TEVA Pharmaceuticals, will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at the Broadway Baptist Church, Third Floor, 305 W. Indian Pow WowGrand Prairie, TX (August 19, 2013) – A 2-1/2 day Native American Pow Wow with colorful tribal dance contests, an arts & crafts show, teepees, visiting with old friends, making new ones, honoring ceremonies, singing and much more will be part of the 51st Annual National Championship Indian Pow Wow. The event will take place at Traders Village, in Grand Prairie, Friday - Sunday, September 6th, 7th & 8th. The contests will take place on Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, on Saturday from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. - 12:00 midnight and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. in the Indian Dance Arena on the west side of the market and is presented by the DFW Inter-Tribal Association.
Several hundred Native Americans, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States, will take part in this celebration of their culture and heritage. The drums will beat for the dancers in full regalia of feathers, buckskin, bells and beadwork competing for prize money and awards in eighteen different dance categories. Spectators will be amazed by the precision and showmanship that even the youngest competitors display in their dancing. Participants will range in age from two-year old toddlers to grandmothers in there 80’s.
Artists, craftsmen and traders from all over the country will showcase their wares and talents at the Arts & Crafts Show and Sale, under the giant Green Expo building, from10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.
The Girl Scouts of Parker County, Peach Blossom Prairie Service Unit is holding an open Girl Scout Information Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs. Sept. 12 at the Aledo United Methodist Church at Oak and Pecan Streets. Brides Against Breast Cancer, a nation-wide non-profit organization that serves people with cancer, will hold a bridal show Sept 13-14 at Feragne Villa, 755 Mid Cities Blvd. in Hurst. Coder and McCall Elementary School boys and their parents are invited to a Scout Rally to learn about scouting and Pack 1099 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Willow Park. Regular meetings are at 6:30 p.m. Mondays starting Sept. 9 throughout most of the school year.

With construction of FM 1187 reaching the halfway point, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed lanes on the east side of the roadway beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, according to officials with TxDOT and McMahon Construction. The actual switchover could cause some minor delays over a four- hour period from 8 p.m. to midnight, as vehicles are diverted onto the new concrete. In addition, West Oak St. will be closed, and both East Oak St. and Underwood Rd. will reopen for traffic. Access to all businesses will remain available with directional signs posted as crews work to build the new concrete lanes on the west side of FM 1187. Upon completion, FM 1187 will be a four lane divided highway with a median, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and landscaping.

The Raptor Civil Air Patrol Squadron, TX-441, will serve a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Granbury Airport Terminal. CAP Lt Col Bill Kindred of Willow Park is Commander of the Squadron and welcomes all to fly or drive to the airport on Saturday morning. Proceeds support CAP Cadet training expenses. The FAA will also present a safety seminar titled “Landing” starting at 9 a.m.
