Turkey Trot

November 13, 2013 by Jennifer Retter

Event Date:
Thu, 11/28/2013 - 8:00am

More than 14,000 individuals from Fort Worth, Tarrant County and all over the country will converge on Camp Bowie Boulevard on Thursday, Nov. 28 – Thanksgiving morning – for the 32nd annual Mortiz Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot presented by Total Building Maintenance.
The Turkey Trot features a 10K run, a 5K run/walk and the Central Market 1K Gobbler Trot for kids and families. Proceeds from the Fort Worth YMCA Turkey Trot benefit the scholarship/youth program of the Westside YMCA. Persons who wish to utilize the services of the Y, but cannot afford them, are given assistance based on their needs. This allows the YMCA to say "Yes!" to those who otherwise would not be able to participate.
All races start in front of Frost Bank at 6115 Camp Bowie at Westridge, with the Gobbler Trot kicking things off at 8:00 a.m. The 10 K follows at 8:15 and the 5K begins shortly afterwards at 8:30. All races end at Sunset and Westridge. Course maps for all three races can be found online at www.fwtrot.org.
Turkey Trot has become a time that many people in the area look forward to as an opportunity to connect with family and friends on the Thanksgiving holiday. Longtime Trot participant Olivia Estrella says, “My family does the Turkey Trot. One son, three daughters, one daughter-in-law and me. We look forward to it and it has become a family tradition. We love it!”

He would spend the next 13 months and 34 major surgeries, including some never before attempted in the United States, trying to regain the life he once knew. Mr. Piper has shared his story of hope and healing across the globe including to audiences from NBC’s Today Show, Dateline NBC, ABC’s Nightline, FOX Network’s Sean Hannity’s America and The O’Reilly Factor.
