Shaw-Kemp Ranch sets annual open house

The annual Shaw-Kemp Open House is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, April 11 from 1-5 p.m. – weather permitting – at the Shaw-Kemp Ranch (Nebo Valley), located at 220 Kemp Road, just off of Highway 51 South (a.k.a. Granbury Highway).
For the past 35 years, Mary Kemp, with the help of a hundred or so of her closest friends and family members, has hosted the annual Shaw-Kemp Open House, celebrating history, blue bonnets and the brand of good, down-home fun and hospitality for which Parker County has become famous. 
Step back in time while looking at log cabins, a ranch house, a school, a church, a grocery store, a post office, a bank, a barber shop, and much more.
Live entertainment will be held all afternoon on the DeBeauford house porch.

Tours of Mount Pleasant School offered

In honor of Black History month, the newly renovated historic Mount Pleasant Colored School in Weatherford will be the site of four guided tours Saturday, Feb. 21. Alumnus Raymond George will conduct the tours from 1-1:30, 2-2:30, 3-3:30 and 4-4:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the school from 6-8 p.m. Directions: Two blocks south of the intersection of Palo Pinto Street and Dubellette Street. Impact hosts informational meeting on competitive cheerleading

Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival performances set

The 39th anniversary of the magnificent Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival will be celebrated in University Christian Church's sanctuary, 2720 S. University Dr. in Fort Worth Jan. 3-4 at 3 and 5 p.m. each day. Bring family and gather friends to come as the magnificent cast of 300 delights in bringing to life this remarkable production. All performances of the pageant are free and open to the public. However, since it is as heralded by local townspeople and patrons from neighboring cities and states, plan on arriving at least an hour early to find seats.

Grand opening celebration

Impact Athletic Training Center and CrossFit City View will host a free community grand opening celebration Saturday, Jan. 24, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 100 Nu Energy Drive in Aledo. This fun, family event will feature games, face painting, bounce houses, snow cones and cotton candy, raffles, trunk shows, an in-house CrossFit competition, a fire truck and fire safety presentation, flip-a-thon, and performances by Impact’s award-winning gymnastics team. All funds raised from the CrossFit competition, flip-a-thon and raffle will benefit Cameron Hudson, an Aledo High School student who was severely burned in a fire accident.
