The Parker County Bulls 9-year-old baseball team will host a golf tournament at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 20 at Split Rail Golf Course in Aledo. Cost is $90 per player. Fee includes lunch provided by Chicken Express, driving range, cart and green fee. Format is 4-person scramble with a shot gun start. For more information or to register call 817-550-3872.
The Aledo ISD Ex-Student Association Banquet will be on Oct. 13 at the Don Daniel Ninth Grade Center on Bailey Ranch Road. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. The meal will be served at 7 p.m. Dinner and dues ($3) will be $15 each. There will be a silent auction with proceeds to go to the scholarship fund. All ex-students are encouraged to attend. The homecoming game will be Oct. 12, against O.D. Wyatt from Fort Worth. The Parker County Hospital District and Parker County Emergency Management will have three drive-thru flu clinics on Saturday, September 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The clinics will be at 400 Eagle Spirit Lane off of FM 1189 in Brock, the Springtown ISD Transportation Barn at 501 Pojo Drive and the Aledo ISD Maintenance Barn at 1000 Bailey Ranch Road, just east of the football stadium. Vaccinations will cost $10 for adults and will be free for children ages 9 to 18.
Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield users will need to bring their insurance cards so that they can be billed. Medicare patients will pay nothing out of pocket if they have their Medicare card. Seniors age 65 and over can choose to receive a “high dose” vaccine.
Residents must fill out a brief consent form that can be found the Parker County Hospital District’s web site at www.parkercountyhd.org under the “Event Calendar” tab and clicking on the “Consent Form for Shots” link.

Cub Scout Pack 1099, serving McCall and Coder Elementary Schools, will host a get-acquainted meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at St. Francis Church in Willow Park. Information will be presented about scouting with an opportunity for questions and answers and to register boys in first through fifth grade. Clark Gardens will host the 2012 Chili Cook-Off on from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Clark Gardens, located at 567 Maddux Road, in Weatherford. The Weatherford Art Association will host Colleyville artist Paula Robinson as the scheduled guest artist for the 7 p.m. meeting on Monday, Aug. 27 at the Firehouse Gallery, located at 119 Palo Pinto Street in Weatherford. Paula is the owner of “Touching Hearts with Art” and will demonstrate using pastel pencil, graphite and watercolor to create realistic art with a touch of the abstract.

Healthy Woman will host its free Healthy Woman Lunch & Learn at 12 p.m. on Thursday, August 23. The subject of the discussion will be Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, which involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Through OMT, osteopathic physicians move muscles and joints using techniques such as stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. There will be live demonstrations, discussions on therapy options and how they may be used to heal the body. Reservations are required. The Cross Timbers Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) will host Randy Smith, who will present a program about feral hogs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 at Harberger Hill Community Center, 701 Narrow Street in Weatherford. The public is invited to attend.
Smith, specializing in wildlife damage management, is a district supervisor for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in Texas; which is a multi-faceted Agency with a broad mission area that includes protecting and promoting U.S. agricultural health, regulating genetically engineered organisms, administering the Animal Welfare Act and carrying out wildlife damage management activities. Its mission is to protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources, which supports the overall mission of USDA, to protect and promote food, agriculture, natural resources and related issues.

A free Managing Diabetes through Nutrition and Healthy Eating Workshop will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 13 at the Weatherford Senior Citizens Center, located at 1225 Holland Lake Drive. The program will focus on providing guidelines for good nutrition and utilizing information provided on food labels for menu planning. There will be a cooking demonstration and individual consultations will be provided after the presentation for those persons seeking additional information and resources. Each participant (one per family) will receive a copy of the American Diabetes Association book, “Month of Meals: Diabetes Meal Planner.” The book contains valuable information covering 600 recipes and will be provided free of charge to eligible participants by the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging.
