Library hosts Garden Party

East Parker County Library kicks off its summer reading program with the 12th annual Garden Party Sunday, May 31 from 2-5 p.m. at the library, FM 1187 at Oak St.
Music will be provided by Jazz by Bob and Dave. The library will hold its largest book sale yet. There will be plenty of children’s activities.
And along with the favorite Flower Hat Contest will be a Super Hero Costume Contest. Stuart Nursery will provide flower gifts.
Tickets are $20 for adults, and children are admitted free. They are available in advance at the library, or $25 at the door.

Spend an evening with Aledo author David C. Hughes as he presents “Motivation and the Writing Life,” a 45-minute discussion designed to inspire writers to stick with their passion and do what they do best: write. In this short seminar, David will focus on why writers write, dealing with writer’s guilt, keeping proper perspective, fear, persistence, and developing the writing habit. A question and answer session will follow to give attendees the opportunity to dialog with David about his 37-year writing experience. David will also have on-hand his Christian inspirational book, “The Epiphany of Joy,” and his illustrated children’s book, “Melted Clowns,” for review and purchase. The Watchdog Reporter for the Dallas Morning News will speak at 6:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church.

East Parker County Library Garden Party

The East Parker County Library’;s annual fundraiser, "Garden Party on the Prairie: Celebrating 25 Years in East Parker County," will be Saturday, May 31 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the A. J. Hood Pioneer Home.
Music will be provided by Clear Fork Jazz.
There will be art for children and teens, stories under the trees, croquet, horseshoes and games, a book walk, book sale, silent auction items, great food, and summer reading program sign-up.
All proceeds benefit the non-profit East Parker County Library.

Library historic book tour

The East Parker County Library is hosting a Parker County Sketchbook Tour of significant historic sites Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tickets, which include a map of the route, are for sale at the library, $10 per individual or $25 per car.
The tour will be self-paced and will include “Stop and See” and “Stop and Do” sites. A separate bike route is also available.
The tour gets under way at the library in downtown Aledo.
Subsequent stops include Tunnel Road and Underwood Cemetery, Log Cabin at the A.J. Wood home, El Chico Ranch/Lodge, Willow Springs Cemetery, Doss Heritage and Cultural Center, Holland Lake Park, Annetta United Methodist Church, Parker County Cowboy Church, Red Rock Gym at Vandagriff Elementary and Front Street in Aledo.
Some sites will include information, food and fun events.
The One Book/One Community project is a nationwide effort to develop a community of readers by encouraging residents to all read the same book.
EPCL selected the book by local author Homer Norris, which was hand-written and illustrated, that delves into some of the history of the East Parker County area.
Proceeds from the tour benefit the services of the library.
