Lunch and learn to focus on disaster planning

October 3, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Thu, 11/06/2014 - 11:00am

East Parker County Chamber of Commerce will host a lunch and learn on emergency preparedness for business and beyond Thursday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Aledo Community Center, 104 Robinson Court.
Parker County Emergency Management Dept. including Assistant EMC Janice Stroud and Aledo Mayor Kit Marshall, community liaison for emergency preparedness, will give an informative presentation on businesses large and small and the importance of disaster planning, emergency preparedness, and business continuity – the goals are ultimately the same: to get an organization back up and running in the event of a disaster.
Major disasters, such as tornadoes and large-scale power outages, are rare. Smaller disasters, such as server failure, burst pipes and fires, however, happen every day. Companies often prepare for the worst, but forget the everyday challenges, which can be just as crippling.
The mission of the lunch and learn is to assist in developing a plan to protect employees, lessen the financial impact of disasters, and reopen the business quickly to support economic recovery in the community. Knowing what to do before, during, and after disruptions or large-scale disasters is critical. A small investment of time now can help alleviate major challenges, and costs, in the future.
Chamber members and community may register today at or for additional information, call the chamber office at 817-441-7844. Cost is $20 and includes lunch.

Superintendent to address bond election

September 8, 2014 by Phil Major

Event Date:
Wed, 10/08/2014 - 11:30am

Join Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Derek Citty at the East Parker County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon Oct. 8 at New River Fellowship, 3252 East I-20 South Service Road, Hudson Oaks, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Citty will give an informative talk on the recommendation by the Aledo ISD trustees calling for a $61.5 million bond election Nov. 4.
The bond suggests the student enrollment will increase from 4,872 students in the fall of 2013 to 6,397 students by the fall of 2018. “Based on the timeline that we have, the growth that’s coming and the fact that our current four elementary schools are going to be closing up capacity-wise over the next two to three years, we really need to look at the notion of asking the community for some additional capacity elementary-wise,” Dr. Citty advised. (McAnally expansion), security entrances, buses, the list goes on…”
The chamber invites members as well as the community to attend this very important luncheon. Register online: or call the chamber for more information at 817-441-7844.
