The dark night skies will provide the opportunity for a Star Party at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Saturday, April 18. Members of Fort Worth and Dallas astronomical societies will bring telescopes to view stars and constellations, or visitors may bring their own. The event is free to the public and provides a chance to visit the park, which is not yet officially open. Overnight camping is allowed for this event, but there are no public facilities. Bring chairs, water, bug spray, etc.
The park is headquartered at Strawn, just north of Interstate 20 and about 50 miles west of Weatherford. Directions: From I-20 take exit 361, go north on Highway 16 for 4 miles, go west on FM 2372 for 2 miles, then follow the signs. For more information go to https://www.facebook.com/PaloPintoMtns.
Aledo ISD Police Officer Stephanie Alvarez will be waiting tables at the Railhead Smokehouse BBQ in Willow Park from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 28. Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics. Alvarez plans to be a torch bearer during the Law Enforcement Torch Run when it comes through Fort Worth in late June.

Moss Insurance Group in Aledo will host its third annual Shredding Day for the community, Wednesday, April 22 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 705 FM 1187. The event is open to anyone – individuals and businesses – with papers to shred.
Bring the family Sunday, April 5 rain or shine to Clark Gardens for an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. in the East Tent. The service is hosted by the Mineral Wells Area Ministerial Alliance and is free to the public. Guests can enjoy the gardens until 9:30 a.m.

The annual Shaw-Kemp Open House is scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, April 11 from 1-5 p.m. – weather permitting – at the Shaw-Kemp Ranch (Nebo Valley), located at 220 Kemp Road, just off of Highway 51 South (a.k.a. Granbury Highway).

In honor of Black History month, the newly renovated historic Mount Pleasant Colored School in Weatherford will be the site of four guided tours Saturday, Feb. 21. Alumnus Raymond George will conduct the tours from 1-1:30, 2-2:30, 3-3:30 and 4-4:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the school from 6-8 p.m. Directions: Two blocks south of the intersection of Palo Pinto Street and Dubellette Street.
