The Connections Mentoring Program of Aledo ISD will have orientation from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5. This program helps to empower youth in the community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. The mentoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals. Persons interested in mentoring a student are invited to this open orientation. Applications can be printed and completed in advance by visiting http://connections-program.aledo.schoolfusion.us. For more information or to RSVP call Meredith at 817-441-5161.

The Aledo Police Department will host the annual National Night Out from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo.
National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen neighboring communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local law enforcement partners.
The local event will feature all East Parker County law enforcement and first responder organizations, including police, fire, EMS, constable and sheriff, along with emergency vehicles and equipment on display.
In addition, local vendors will be on hand to hand out information about services they offer.
Activities for children include a bounce house and other carnival-type activities. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will also be handed out.
Two popular activities to be repeated include a classic car and motorcycle show and the “drunk vision goggles,” which simulate the experience of being drunk for the purpose of engaging in sobriety tests.
Kids will also have the opportunity to dress in first responder uniforms at emergency unit presentations.
