AISD introduces Bearcat Nation 101

Aledo ISD will host its first Bearcat Nation 101, an orientation for newcomers to the school district.
It will be held in the Aledo High School cafeteria from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Aug. 8 and is come-and-go.
Parents new to the school district will find a variety of resources available, such as day care, youth sports leagues, Girl and Boy Scouts, school events, school athletics, library services, voter registration, and community resources and more.
Bearcat Nation 101 is a project of the Teacher Leadership Academy.

Aledo ISD hosting Special Needs Expo

An event to connect families with special needs to the many resources available will be held Thursday, July 30 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Daniel Ninth Grade Center in Aledo.
The Special Needs Expo will include guest speakers on guardianship and power of attorney, Social Security Income and Social Security Disability Income, and Services and Waiver Lists.
Exhibitors include the Texas Dept. of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Miracle League of Parker County, Attorney Soraya Joslin, Weatherford College, Expanco, ABG Solutions, Easter Seals of North Texas, Catholic Charities, ARC, Special Olympics Delegation of Parker County, Early Childhood Intervention and Pecan Valley Centers for Behavorial and Developmental Health Care.

Parenting University presents course on stress

Aledo ISD Parenting University will hold a session, “Stress: Helping kids (and parents) cope” Monday, May 11. Two classes are offered at 8:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. Each will be followed by a question and answer session. The Aledo PTO will provide coffee and snacks at both sessions. Sessions are held at the Aledo ISD Administration Bldg., 1008 Bailey Ranch Road.
The course includes discussion and dialogue on managing stress for kids and parents and is presented by Ross Teeming, senior director of behavioral health at Texas Health Resources.

Community meetings set for bond election

The Aledo School District has scheduled three community meetings concerning the May 9 school bond election.
The district is asking voters to approve $53.2 million to include $28.8 million for the district’s fifth elementary school, $12.9 million for security and technology, $6.6 million for renovations and repairs, $2.4 million for new buses, $2 million for additions and improvements at Coder Elementary to include a secure entryway and $333,000 for secure entries at McAnally Intermediate, Aledo Middle School and Stuard Elementary.
A $61.5 million bond issue failed last November.
The meetings are as follows:
April 16, AHS Distance Learning Center, 7-9 p.m.
April 21, Stuard Elementary Cafeteria, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
April 28, McCall Cafeteria, 6-8 p.m.

Makeup event planned for Cowtown Marathon

A makeup 5K event for Aledo Bearcat Runners Club student members who did not get to participate in the Cowtown Marathon will be held Thursday, April 2 from 3-5 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
Most of the marathon’s series of races had to be canceled due to inclement weather March 1.
Kids can earn their Cowtown finishers’ medal by completing 12 laps at the stadium track any time between 3-5. It will not be a race but a come-and-go event organized by Coder Elementary PE teacher Becky Shaunfield.
The Cowtown Marathon will bring its inflatable finish line and a water station, and possibly some snacks.
Any child younger than 18 can receive their finisher’s medal. Wear the orange runners club shirt and the blue Cowtown bib and walk or run the 12 laps.

Aledo ISD turning purple for military kids

April is the month of the military child, providing an opportunity to recognize and honor the service of the youngest heroes, military children. Help turn Aledo ISD purple on April 15 for Purple Up! for Military Kids!
Wearing purple is a visible way to show support and thank military youth for their strength and sacrifices. Purple symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Marine red, Coast Guard, Navy and Air Force blue. Be creative….the goal is for military youth to see they have thanks and support.

Parenting University offers two courses

Aledo ISD Parenting University will host two sessions Thursday, March 5
“Raising Screenagers” and “College Planning” will be offered simultaneously at 8:30 a.m. and at 9:10 a.m. followed by a Q&A at 9:45.
Meetings are held at the AISD Administration Bldg., 1008 Bailey Ranch Road.
“Raising Screenagers” will include tips and recommendations for setting screen limits and social media guidelines.
“College Planning” will include suggestions and steps for planning from kindergarten through 12th grade.
