Rangers/Grandparents Day at TCA

Texas RangersTexas RangersStudents had special guests at Trinity Christian Academy Friday afternoon. Grandparents were allowed to come in and experience a school day with their grandchildren.

Students also dressed up in celebration of the Texas Rangers' winning the division series playoffs over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rangers now play the New York Yankees for the American League Pennant. If Texas wins, it would be the first trip to the World Series in the franchise's 49-year history. Click below to see pictures from the day's events.

Business Expo on tap for Thursday

East Parker County Business ExpoThe East Parker County Chamber of Commerce Business Expo is Thursday, Oct. 14 from 4-8 p.m. at Willow Park Baptist Church. The expo will include numerous vendors from the local area. Food will be available from Baker's Ribs, Bordelon Foods, The Wild Mushroom Steakhouse and Ultimate Cupcake. Everyone who attends will have a chance to win a 32" Flat Screen TV donated by Weatherford Regional Medical Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Parker County Red Cross educating teens to be safer babysitters

How prepared is your teenaged babysitter? Maybe more—or less—than you thought.

A recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics showed that while almost all 13-year-old babysitters know who to contact if there is an intruder or a child is sick, injured or poisoned, 40 percent of younger babysitters reported that they had left children unattended while babysitting, and 20 percent opened the door to strangers.

Texas Extension Education Association Week in Parker County

Model Agency Award

Girl Scout camp vandalized

Special to CN: A window was one of the many things vandalized at the local Girl Scouts camp.Recently, Weatherford Police Department was contacted by representatives of the local Girl Scouts of America who reported that several buildings at the Girl Scout camp, located at 1419 Holland Lake Dr, had been vandalized including the 120 year old, single room, rock cabins.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found multiple windows broken, a fire extinguisher discharged, and graffiti on several of walls inside the buildings. The suspects spray painted “SKJ”, “Westside” and “420”.

7th Annual Tombstone Tour

WeatherfordLovers of history, graveyards and great stories should mark their calendars now for the Seventh Annual Tombstones Tour at Old City Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford.

Sponsored by the Parker County Heritage Society, this year’s Tombstones Tour focuses on families who have impacted the rich heritage of this community with all presenters discussing the impact on Weatherford during the Spanish Influenza Pandemic of 1918.

Water Well Screening Day

Parker CountyThe Parker County Office of Texas AgriLife Extension Service is sponsoring a water well screening day for area residents Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The well water screening day is designated to inform private water well owners and users on the condition of their well water of possible contamination from common contaminants, according to Jon Green, Parker County Extension Agent-Agriculture.

Contaminants for which water will be screened include fecal coliform, salinity and nitrates.
