Careity Foundation offers complimentary mammograms

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Careity Foundation is providing complimentary mamograms to Parker County residents. Any woman older than 35 who has not had a yearly screening is eligible. The screenings will take place Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Teskey’s, 3001 W. I-20 in Weatherford. Screenings must be scheduled in advance by calling the Moncrief Cancer Institute at 817-838-4889. For more information about the Careity Foundation, its programs and events, visit www.careity.org.

The parade kicks off a week of Homecoming festivities, which include the Bearcats football game at 7:30 p.m. Friday night and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night.

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk set for Sept. 25

Special to The Community News: The 2010 Memory Walk is being held in memory of Nickie Allen, longtime supporter of of the Alzheimer's Association.Special to The Community News: The 2010 Memory Walk is being held in memory of Nickie Allen, longtime supporter of of the Alzheimer's Association.

The Alzheimer’s Association - North Central Texas Chapter is inviting area residents to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in the annual Memory Walk on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Weatherford College. Hundreds of walkers are expected to join this year’s 1.5 mile Memory Walk to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease. Registration for Memory Walk starts at 8 a.m., the pre-walk program begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Center of Hope golf tournament set Oct. 11

TOTS holds auditions for Christmas ‘whodunit’

Auditions for “If It’s Monday, This Must Be Christmas” will be held at Theatre Off The Square at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28, with callbacks on Wednesday, Sept. 29. This holiday “whodunit” is written by Texas playwright Pat Cook and is produced courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Company.

Casting call for this production is five men ages 20-60, six women ages 20-60, one boy and one girl, each aged 9-11. Rehearsals begin Nov. 1, and the show runs for two weekends, Dec. 10-19.

Special to The Community News: Frank Geionety, Kiowa artist, will present a program at the Museum of the Americas on Sept. 25.Special to The Community News: Frank Geionety, Kiowa artist, will present a program at the Museum of the Americas on Sept. 25.Frank Geionety, Kiowa artist and storyteller, will present a program of story telling and songs, and a discussion of Kiowa traditions at the Museum of the Americas in Weatherford on Saturday, Sept. 25. The first presentation will be at 1 p.m., and will be repeated at the opening reception 7-9 p.m. An exhibit of his original works of art and prints will be on display.
