GRO song featured on Olympics soundtrack

Green River Ordinance’s “Rise Up” is featured on the 2010 Olympic Soundtrack, along with other songs from artists such as 3 Doors Down, Mariah Carey, Gloriana, and Sugarland. The album is the exclusive AT&T Team USA Soundtrack, GRO has two Aledo High School graduates within its five-member band: Josh Jenkins and Josh Wilkerson, both members of the Class of 2003. Jenkins is the group’s frontman and Wilkerson is guitarist. All members of the band, including bassist Geoff Ice, drummer Denton Hunker, and guitarist Jamey Ice, unite their skills and experiences to write the band’s song.

Prayers requested for missing medical missionary

J.W. Alexander of Cincinnati, Ohio is a medical missionary serving in Haiti. He is the father of Judith Alexander Priest of Aledo, and he has not been heard from since the earthquake struck there. Friends of the family are requesting prayers of support for the family.

Scouts holding rally on Jan. 12

Boy Scouts in the Aledo area will hold a rally Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at Vandagriff Elementary School. Boys aged 6-17 are invited to learn about the area's scouting program and scouts in the community.

East Parker County Genealogy and Historical Society moves collection

An agreement was recently reached with Candy Scott, City of Willow Park Administrator, and the organization’s Vice-President, Kay W. Davis, for the 1000+ holdings of the EPCGHS to be moved to the Willow Park Community Center at the corner of Ranch House Road and Stagecoach Road West. The agreement allows the organization to utilize the city’s previous Park and Recreation office.

Handmade stadium blanket to benefit Moke family

A very warm, handmade stadium blanket will go to the highest bidder following the silent auction at Aledo National Bank, located south of downtown Aledo in the strip center on the east side of FM 1187.

The silent auction is under way and will conclude Dec. 18.

Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Moke family to help cover Hunter’s funeral expenses. The Aledo High School senior died Nov. 16.

The stadium blanket is orange and black and has a paw-print pattern. It is double-layered fleece with tie knots. It is on display at the bank where citizens can make a bid on it.
