Natalee Norman receives flowers during class at Aledo High School Friday afternoon. Delivering the flowers is senior Landen Blackburn. Varsity athletes also assisted in delivering a number of flowers from parents and dates throughout the morning.

Celebrations continue tonight at the football game against Keller-Timer Creek. The Homecoming Court will be announced at halftime. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.

No. 2 Aledo stops No. 1 Lake Travis' 48-game win streak with 14-10 victory

For the first time in 49 games, the Lake Travis Cavaliers can now put a mark in the loss column thanks to the Aledo Bearcats.

The Bearcats, who can now lay claim as the best team in Class 4A, defeated the Div. I, 4A Champions 14-10 Friday night with the support of an Aledo crowd that filled up the entire visitor's side - with the addition of three sets of portable bleachers - at Lake Travis High School's Cavalier Stadium.

The Bearcats took the lead for good in the fourth quarter when Johnathan Gray scored from a yard out on 4th and goal with six minutes remaining in the contest.

Early meetings for Aledo council in September, October

City Of AledoDue to additional meetings taking place at the Aledo Community Center, the Aledo City Council will be meeting one week early in September and October. The council was also presented a copy of "Around Aledo", the new book that shows a history of the East Parker County cities, by author Susan Karnes.

In their meeting that lasted about two and a half hours, the Aledo City Council accepted the resignation of Leo Norman from place two. They later replaced him Jean Bailey.

A full story will be featured in The Community News next week along with full, unedited video of the presentation given by Freese and Nichols Inc. on the new wastewater treatment plant.

Deputies make arrests in vehicle burglaries

Parker County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two male adults and detained one juvenile male suspect in connection with multiple recent vehicle burglaries.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said deputies responded to a vehicle burglary call Tuesday evening in the 300 block of Creek Bend Drive in Aledo. The complainant reported that unknown suspect(s) had been breaking into vehicles recently around the neighborhood, stealing electronics, tools and personal possessions, while setting off car alarms.

UPDATED: Three county fire departments battled blaze

Aledo, Willow Park and Hudson Oaks fire departments battled a house fire off of White Settlement Road Friday afternoon. Departments from Silver Creek and Cresson were also on the scene. There are no details as to how the blaze started. A firfighter on the scene confirmed that no one was hurt.

Because of the heat all emergency workers on scene were instructed to break and hydrate in the shade. American Red Cross Disaster Services arrived on the scene with water and Gatorade.

Driver okay after FM-1187 accident

Dominic Genetti/The Community News: Nathan Tomlin, 20, escaped without injury after his SUV landed in a Aledo ditch along FM-1187.No one was hurt in a single car accident along FM-1187 near Bailey Ranch Road in Aledo Friday afternoon.

Nathan Tomlin, 20, was on his way to his girlfriend's house when he swerved his 1998 Ford Explorer and ended up in a ditch, according to his father James Brooke. The SUV fell to its passenger side. Tomlin escaped through the driver's side window.

Parker County Sheriff's Deputies that arrived on scene did not issue Tomlin any tickets or citations.

Councilman responds, proposes task force

Bill YoungBill YoungWeeks after Willow Park Mayor Ken Hawkins proposed that the six cities of East Parker County unite under one municipality with the Aledo name, another proposal has come forward.

Hudson Oaks City Councilman Bill Young, who Hawkins mentioned as a supporter at the town hall meeting last week, has written a full response to Hawkins' united cities proposal and is proposing a separate plan for the assumed growth coming to Aledo, Hudson Oaks, the Annettas and Willow Park.

Area mayors follow Deen's lead

Six days after Willow Park Mayor Ken Hawkins officially proposed to the public that the six cities of East Parker County merge and become one, three area mayors have confirmed that they want their cities removed from discussions.
