Traffic switch delayed

September 27, 2013 by Randy Keck

In the Sept. 27 issue of The Community News, it was reported that the 1187 traffic switch would occur on Oct 2. Unfortunately, after the paper went to press, we received the following update.

We regret any confusion.

TxDOT and McMahon Construction will delay the scheduled traffic switch on FM 1187 from the night of Wednesday, Oct. 2 to Monday night on Oct. 7, beginning at 8 p.m. due to Aledo High School’s homecoming game on Oct. 4.

The traffic switch on Oct. 7 will move all FM 1187 traffic onto the newly built east side of FM 1187 to allow construction crews to build the new FM 1187 south bound lanes. This plan is expected to create some traffic backups in the area of the Bailey Ranch Road intersection.

Work on the south bound lanes will result in the closing of access to Bankhead Highway off of FM 1187. All traffic wishing to turn onto Bankhead Highway will be detoured to Bailey Ranch Road and then onto Champion’s Drive, which will allow for access to Bankhead Highway. Southbound traffic on FM 1187 wishing to turn right onto Bailey Ranch Road will be able to do so, but without a designated right turn lane at the FM 1187 and Bailey Ranch Road intersection. Northbound traffic on FM 1187 will have a dedicated left turn lane onto Bailey Ranch Road.

1187 traffic to switch Oct. 2

September 19, 2013 by Randy Keck

With construction of FM 1187 into Aledo reaching the halfway point, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed lanes on the east side of the roadway beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, according to officials with TxDOT and McMahon Construction. The actual switchover could cause some minor delays over a four- hour period from 8 p.m. to midnight, as vehicles are diverted onto the new concrete. In addition, West Oak St. will be closed, and both East Oak St. and Underwood Rd. will reopen for traffic. Access to all businesses will remain available with directional signs posted as crews work to build the new concrete lanes on the west side of FM 1187. Upon completion, FM 1187 will be a four lane divided highway with a median, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and landscaping.

Each Saturday, we will have live music from 9:30 a.m. – noon.

The “upscale” and “intimate” market will offer works of art and other specialty items as well as homegrown local produce from our featuring Producer, Jazbac Farm (a Parker County family farm).

Products offered will include custom knives, belt buckles and jewelry, handmade blankets and pillowcases, organic goat milk soaps and specialty coffees. Mary’s Tamales and Cup & Cake Coffeehouse & Bakery will be there, along with a juicer who sells smoothies.

Road construction progresses

June 21, 2013 by Randy Keck

Joel Kertok of the Parker Counry Judge's Office reports that work continues to progress with the widening and reconstruction of FM 1187 and Aledo Trail.

Crews are expected to continue with the paving of both projects for the next several weeks, with FM 1187 paving taking place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should be aware that north bound FM 1187 traffic, planning to access I-20 or the east bound service road, is expected to be detoured across the newly paved portions of FM 1187 as they approach the I-20 traffic signal, starting sometime in mid-July.

Current estimates for when work is expected to switch to the west side of FM 1187 and traffic moved completely to the newly constructed east side of FM 1187 in September or October.
