Aledo High School
Aledo High School hand out the students’ schedules on Aug 12 in the high school cafeteria. Seniors will pick their schedules up from 9-10 a.m., juniors from 10:30-11:30, and sophomores will receive theirs from 1:30-2:30 on that day.

According to an ESPN report of the game, “Riney made his mark on the game with eight minutes left in the fourth, returning an interception 27 yards for a score.” Riney’s North squad won the game 38-14. Riney was featured in last week’s issue of The Community News.
The Aledo 7-on-7 team is competing in the Red Bull Game Breakers 7-on-7 National Finals at SMU Friday-Saturday, July 15-16.
Games begin at 3 p.m. Friday at Gerald R. Ford Stadium at SMU, and continue through 10 p.m. Saturday’s schedule is 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the finals.
Qualifier events were held in 15 cities during May and June. Qualifying teams for the tournament include:
Louisiana – O. Perry Walker and Evangel Christian
Oklahoma – Metro Christian Academy
Pittsburgh – Thomas Jefferson and Clairton
Fort Worth – Aledo, Arlington Martin and Richland Hills
Dallas – Highland Park, Arlington Seguin and West Mesquite
Miami – Columbus
Birmingham – Erwin
Houston – Pearland Dawson, Westside and Cypress Fair
File Photo/The Community NewsSean O’Donnell, a 2011 graduate of Aledo High School, was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association 2011 All-State baseball team as an honorable-mention. O’Donnell was previously named District 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year. He ended his senior season with a .444 batting average and .509 on-base percentage. O’Donnell had five triples, 11 doubles and 29 RBIs in the season.
Weatherford High School shortstop Kevin Cornelius was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association 56-A All-State baseball team for 2011. Cornelius had a .509 batting average, hitting 13 doubles, three triples and six home runs.

Aledo went 5-2 at the tournament to qualify for the Red Bull Game Breakers Finals on July 15-16 at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The Bearcats also qualified for the Texas state 7-on-7 Tournament to be held at Texas A&M on July 15 and 16.

Teams at the tournament include Arlington, Arlington Martin, Denton Guyer, Aledo, Richland, Arlington Sam Houston, Arlington Lamar, Fort Worth Dunbar, Wilmer Hutchins (A. Maceo Smith), Grace Prep, Polytech, South Hills, South West, Sanger and Eastern Hills
The top two teams emerging from the Fort Worth qualifier will compete in the Red Bull Game Breakers Finals on July 15-16 at the Gerald J. Ford Stadium at Southern Methodist University in Dallas to prove who really is a shot caller, play maker and game breaker.
Action begins ay 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at O.D. Wyatt High School, 2400 East Seminary Drive in Fort Worth.

The Aledo Ag Backers presented their annual scholarships to seven graduating seniors at the annual Aledo FFA Awards Banquet, held at the Aledo Ninth Grade Center on Tuesday, May 24.
Scholarships and recipients were:

Glennetta and OC Dugan Agriculatura and Science Accomplishment $500 Scholarship - Jessa Davis

Aledo High School held its annual Honor Graduate Recognition Banquet Monday, recognizing 38 seniors who comprise the top ten percent of 2011 graduates.
After a welcome by High School Principal Dan Peterson, seniors were introduced and their accomplishments cited. Each senior then presented a medallion to the teacher the student felt was most significant or influential in his or her education.
