Junior guard Logan Mittie scored 21 points to lead the Aledo Ladycats to a 52-32 victory over Keller Central this afternoon (Thursday, Dec. 31) at Keller Central in AHS' final non-district game.
The win - the Ladycats ninth in a row - elevates AHS' overall mark to 14-5.
Also scoring for the Ladycats were Melissa Howell with eight points, Mallory Powell and Shelby Stockard, each with seven, Tara Gough with four, Caileen Tallant with three and Sarah Hawkins with two.
The Ladycats led 15-5 after the opening period and built a 28-16 cushion at the half. Aledo outscored Central 15-5 in the third period to take a 43-21 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Ladycats (2-0 in District 6-4A) and Bearcats will host Brewer in 6-4A contests on Saturday, Jan. 2. The girls game will tip off at 3:30 p.m. at the AHS gym followed by the boys contest at approximately 5 p.m.

Ladycats make up non-district game at Keller Central at noon Thursday
The Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats basketball teams will host Brewer on Saturday, Jan. 2, in District 6-4A action.
The Ladycats - 2-0 in district play - will tip off at 3:30 p.m. at the AHS gym, while the Bearcats, in the boys' 6-4A opener, will follow at approximately 5 p.m.
On Thursday (Dec. 31), the Ladycats will conclude non-district play at noon at Keller Central.
Aledo junior guard Logan Mittie scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Ladycats to a 41-37 victory over Birdville Dec. 18 in a District 6-4A contest at the Aledo High School gym.
The win elevates the Ladycats to 13-5 and 2-0 in district play. The Aledo ladies will play next in non-district action at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Keller Central.
The Ladycats will continue district play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at home against Brewer. The Bearcats game will follow at 5 p.m.
22 other AHS gridders receive all-league recognition

Three players from the District 6-4A and state-champion Aledo Bearcats earned top district honors and 22 other Bearcats were also recognized in a vote of 6-4A coaches.
Aledo senior Danny Heiss was the unanimous choice for “Defensive Player of the Year," while sophomore running back Johnathan Gray was selected the league’s “Offensive Player of the Year."

Aledo sophomore Johnathan Gray rushed for 252 yards and scored four touchdowns, including an 89-yard sprint late in the fourth quarter that clinched the game, and senior quarterback Trey Ozee added another score to lead the Aledo Bearcats to a 35-21 victory over the Brenham Cubs Saturday afternoon in the Class 4A, Division II state championship game at D. K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
The state championship win was the second in Aledo High School history and the first in Class 4A.
The victory was also aided by the Bearcats' defense which stopped a Brenham fourth and one at the AHS 10 late in the game. Gray's championship-clinching run followed three plays later, on third and eight.
Aledo head coach Tim Buchanan is all smiles moments after the Bearcats defeated Denison, 40-28, in the Class 4A semifinals. The Bearcats will play Brenham at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at D.K. Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin for the Class 4A, Division II state championship.

The Aledo Bearcats came from two touchdowns behind to defeat Dennison 40-28 and earn a trip to the state championship game next week against Brenham.

With the Aledo Ladycats leading by six points at the half on the road against Richland, head coach Rusty Johnson's halftime speech to his team focused mainly on defense.
"I simply told them we needed to turn up our intensity, especially on defense," Johnson said.
Apparently, the Ladycats were listening.
Aledo came out with a shut down, pressure defense that held Richland scoreless for first 8:42 of the second half - including the entire third quarter - while pouring in 28 points to come away with an impressive 49-27 victory in a non-district contest.
