Due to state-mandated TAKS testing beginning Tuesday, Aledo High School varsity softball and soccer games will be played Monday, March 1.
The Aledo Ladycats varsity softball team will open District 6-4A play at 7 p.m. Monday at Birdville. The JV game will be played at 5 p.m. prior to the varsity game.
The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats varsity soccer teams will travel to Azle on Monday. The boys' match will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the girls' contest at 8 p.m.
The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats each raised their respective District 12-4A records to 9-0 after defeating Brewer Friday night on Youth Soccer Appreciation Night at Bearcat Stadium.
Both the Ladycats and Bearcats won by identical 2-0 scores.
Caitlin Murray earned the shutout in goal for the Ladycats, while Justen Woody blanked Bears.
The Bearcats did all of their scoring within a span of 47 seconds in the first half.
Yusef Marwan scored on a rebound inside the box after a low, hard shot by Thomas Davis for a 1-0 lead with 24:56 left in the first half.
Almost a minute later, Marwan set up Matt Nickell for a goal from 15 yards out on the left side with 24:09 remaining in the half for a 2-0 lead.
Woody and the Bearcats' defenders held Brewer in check in the second half to preserve the victory.
The Ladycats scored all of their goals in the second half.
Leading scorer Stephanie Neeley broke a scoreless tie with a 20-yard goal from the middle with 26:47 remaining in the contest. Ally Swift assisted on the goal.

Bearcats, Conn down North Crowley in nightcap
Aledo senior pitcher Austin Vassberg allowed just four hits and AHS scored in all but one inning as the Bearcats defeated South Grand Prairie, 13-6, Friday afternoon at windy and frigid Bearcat Field in the Jerry Durant Classic.
On Friday night, the Bearcats (4-1) slapped 10 hits in a 6-3 victory over North Crowley. Ryan Conn was the winning pitcher for AHS.
Today (Saturday, Feb. 27) Aledo will face Haltom at noon and Midlothian at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Bearcat Field.
On Friday afternoon against SGP, the Bearcats scored six runs in the first inning to take a 6-4 lead. The big hit in the frame was a three-run homer to left field by senior first baseman Asher Zeeb.

Aledo shortstop Hayden Hall bounced a ground ball to second base in the bottom of the seventh inning that drove home Sean O'Donnell with the winning run to lift the Bearcats to an 8-7 victory over Crowley Thursday night at the Jerry Durant Classic at Bearcat Field.
The win evens the Bearcats' record to 1-1. Earlier Thursday afternoon, Sherman handed Aledo a 7-2 defeat.
The Bearcats will continue tournament play tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 26) at noon against South Grand Prairie and at 5 p.m. against North Crowley. Both contests will be played at Bearcat Field.
Hall's RBI completed a five-run seventh inning that brought AHS back from a four-run deficit.
With Aledo trailing 7-3, right-fielder Nils Smith and designated hitter Blake Dietrich each walked to begin the bottom of the seventh frame.
After Crowley forced an infield fly for an out, third baseman Zach Scott followed with a single to right field which drove in Smith and cut the Eagles' lead to 7-4.
Second baseman Matt Bishop worked a walk on a 3-2 count to load the bases, and O'Donnell followed with a line-drive single to left field that plated Rinker and Scott to cut the Crowley lead to 7-6.
Early Tuesday morning snowfall has canceled Aledo High School sporting events while others are pending.
The Aledo Ladycats junior varsity and varsity softball games at Grapevine, scheduled for today (Tuesday, Feb. 23) have been canceled with no makeup day scheduled.
"There is a possibility later in the season that we might make up the Grapevine game," Ladycats softball coach Jeff Lemons said.
With Mineral Wells ISD closing today due to the weather, the Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats soccer matches scheduled for tonight at Mineral Wells will be played instead on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
The boys' soccer match will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the girls contest at 8 p.m. at Mineral Wells.
Tonight's girls playoff basketball game at Aledo High School between No. 1 Timberview and Stephenville has been reschedule for tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb. 24) at 6:30 p.m.
Tonight's boys playoff game between Arlington Heights and Crowley at 7:30 p.m. will remain on schedule.
Gough selected to first team; Martin, Tallant earn second-team honors

Aledo junior guard Logan Mittie was the unanimous selection for District 6-4A's Most Valuable Player in a vote of 6-4A girls coaches, it was announced today.
Mittie - who was a first-team, all-district guard in her freshman and sophomore years - was not the only Ladycat to earn top district honors as freshman wing Mallory Powell was chosen as Newcomer of the Year.
Ladycats senior post Tara Gough earned first-team, all-district honors, and Aledo sophomores Alanna Martin and Caileen Tallant were second-team selections.
Christian Cassity of Springtown was chosen as the district's Offensive Player of the Year, with Saginaw's Gionna Jackson voted as Defensive Player of the Year.
Ken Thompson of Springtown was selected Coach of the Year.
With brilliant pitching from Morgan Farley and Sarah Simpson to go along with an offensive output of 24 hits in 14 innings, the Aledo Ladycats softball team completed the round-robin Birdville tournament with wins Saturday over Class 5A schools Richland and Trinity.
The wins raise the Ladycats' record to 4-2. Aledo will continue non-district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Grapevine.
The Ladycats began with a 15-hit effort in a 7-1 victory over Richland.
Farley was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Kendall Kizer led the Ladycats with three hits, including two doubles, with two runs batted in.
Carolyn Clayton, Farley, Lauren Durham and Jordan Simons each recorded a pair of hits.
Aledo closed the tournament with a 4-3 win over Trinity.
Simpson was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Kizer and Farley each swatted two hits to pace the Ladycats. The game-winning hit came from Durham, whose fifth-inning single to left field drove in Farley in what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Staying undefeated and still without being scored upon in District 12-4A, the Aledo Ladycats had little trouble in an 11-0 victory over Springtown Friday night in the nightcap at Bearcat Stadium.
The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 7-0. The AHS ladies will continue district play at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Mineral Wells.
More than half of Aledo's goals were set up by Leslie Coats, whose six assists narrowly missed the school record of seven helpers set by Kirby Zak in 2007.
Allyson Swift and Stephanie Neeley each scored three goals to lead the Ladycats.
Brady Gabbert scored a pair of goals - including a bender on a corner kick - with Kaylee McGee, Allie Vidrine and Bailey Scott each adding a goal.
Also recording assists were Swift, Paige Marsh and Taylor Thornton.
Goalkeeper Caitlin Murray earned the shutout.
Bearcats 7, Springtown 0
Thomas Davis and Yusef Marwan each scored two goals to lead the Bearcats over Springtown in the first match of the Friday night district doubleheader.
The Bearcats will continue 12-4A action at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Mineral Wells.
Aledo soccer teams also at home this Friday, Feb. 19
Aledo head coach Derek Vierling and the Ladycats and Bearcats are hosting their annual "Youth Soccer Night" on Friday, Feb. 26, at Bearcat Stadium where the teams will host Brewer.
Aledo youth coaches and all future Bearcats and Ladycats are encouraged to attend.
"On behalf of the Bearcat and Ladycat soccer teams, I would like to invite you and your teams to the fourth annual Aledo Youth Soccer Night," Vierling said.
The Ladycats game will kick off at 6 p.m.followed by the Bearcats contest at 8 p.m.
All Aledo youth soccer players in uniform will be allowed entry into Bearcat Stadium for .25 cents. At half time of the first game, approximately 6:45, all youth soccer players in uniform will be allowed to play a 10 minute mini game on Bearcat Field.
"Bring your family and friends to the game and come out and cheer on the Bearcats and Ladycats as we play host to our cross town rivals, the Brewer Bears," Vierling said. "Come out and support your Bearcats and Ladycats."
