All four Aledo High School Bands received Sweepstakes this month at the UIL Region 7 Concert and Sightreading Contest in Burleson. This was the second year all four bands have gone to the competition, and the second straight year that all bands achieved Sweepstakes status.
Director of Bands Joey Paul said it is incredible that all four bands attained Sweepstakes.
“What impresses me most about these students is the level of difficulty in the music literature they are reading,” he said. “Our top band, the Wind Ensemble, is reading college-level music, and the other bands are reading one-to-two grade levels above required UIL standards.”
Paul said these accomplishments are achieved by the students’ overall dedication, and just as importantly, to the vertical alignment in the band program beginning from the sixth grade up. “The beginners in sixth-grade band receive the same level of devoted attention from their directors as students do in the higher grades, so the band program continually builds upon itself.”
Due to the Ride for Heroes in Aledo on Saturday, April 21, the Aledo Bearcats baseball game scheduled against Arlington Heights will be played AT Arlington Heights High School. Arlington Heights will play in Aledo on Saturday, April 28.
