The Ladycats varsity softball team will play Denton Guyer in the second round of the playoffs. The best of three series starts at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Aledo. The 'Cats will play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Guyer, and a third game will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. if needed at a site TBD.
The Ladycats softball team beat Waco's University High School 10-0 in the first game of the playoffs. The next game in the best of three series will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at University.
Tonight's softball game against Southwest has been moved from Southwest to Aledo. Southwest will still play as the home team. JV starts at 5:30 and Varsity starts at 7.
Due to unplayable field conditions, tonight’s softball games against Trimble Tech have been postponed until Monday, April 8. Game times of 5:30 for JV and 7 p.m. for Varsity. Saturday’s non-district Varsity game against Birdville is on as scheduled for 2 p.m.

The AHS choir will be hosting a fun family event at First Financial Bank in Aledo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. The event will have face painting, kids activities, a bake sale and great photo ops. The funds will be used to send choir members to a leadership conference.

The University Interscholastic League has released the final results of the past school year’s Lone Star Cup competition, in which Aledo High School placed eighth in the 4A division.
The Lone Star Cup is awarded based on a point system awarded according to a school’s accomplishments in State and Area Marching Band, Team Tennis, Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Swimming and Diving, Wrestling, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Soccer, Golf, Track & Field, Academics, One Act Play, Softball and Baseball.
In the 4A standings Austin Lake Travis finished first with 112 points, followed by Dallas Highland Park (106), Friendswood (80), Montgomery (79), Waco Midway (78), Cedar Park (76), San Antonio Alamo Heights (74), Aledo (68), Northwest Nelson (64), and Canyon Randall (56) to complete the top ten.
Aledo High School graduate Johnathan Gray was named Gatorade Male Athlete of the Year last night at an ESPN televised award ceremony at Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, Calif.

Randy Keck/The Community News: Aledo High School's Laney Anderson delivered the Valedictorian's Address at the 2012 AHS Commencement Ceremony on Monday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on the TCU campus.
At the ceremony, 345 students crossed the stage to receive diplomas. More on graduation and a full section celebrating the senior class of 2012 will be in the June 8 issue of The Community News.
