Neverdouski and Carlisle invited to speak at meeting
A new mayor pro-tem will be elected tonight by the Willow Park City Council at their regular meeting. The second-in-command for the city is chosen by the city council.
Mayor Ken Hawkins said he wants "somebody who has a future with the city." Currently veteran councilman Hale Alderman serves as mayor pro-tem. Hawkins called him "a very valuable asset" to the council.
Amongst discussions on improvements to Ranch House Road, budget reviews and ordinances, Cindy Neverdouski and David Carlisle, who lost their races to the Willow Park City Council a week and a half ago, have been invited to speak to the council by Hawkins and address their proposed municipal goals.
Despite the weather, the all night long Relay for Life event will still take place only it will be indoors.
The event will be at Aledo Baptist Church in the gymnasium. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.
Trinity Christian Academy choir will be performing Beauty and the Beast tonight and Saturday at the Weatherford High Ninth Grade Center.
The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. this evening and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

A home located in a gated community off of FM-1187 in Aledo was struck by lightning Thrusday evening during a thunderstorm. No one was hurt.
Morris Leondar, assistant fire chief of the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department, said the lightning struck an attic vent on the roof of the house at 131 Bent Tree and cause a minor fire inside the attic.
The home is owned by Martin and Pamela Terry who own and operate Terry's Lawn Care.
Current events and issues team joins Eric Elsken as Aledo state champions at UIL State Academic Meet
Aledo High School's current events and issues team won first place today (Saturday, May 8) at the University Interscholastic League State Academic Meet.
Also, AHS' literary criticism and social studies teams each finished in second place in their respective competitions as the trio of teams helped Aledo to a fourth-place finish overall with 79 1/4 points.
Earlier in the meet, AHS senior Eric Elsken won the individual state championship in computer science.
In individual competition, placing third for AHS were Anna Flinchbaugh in ready writing and Kiefer Odell in current events and issues, with Odell also placing fourth in social studies.

Late Aledo rally in game three falls short as Lake Dallas moves on after 4-2 win
Aledo scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning but the rally fell short as Lake Dallas defeated the Bearcats, 4-2, to win the third and deciding game of a Class 4A bi-district playoff series Saturday afternoon at Saginaw High School.
Senior Ryan Conn took the loss for AHS, while Brandon Cogbill was the winning pitcher for the Falcons, who will advance to the area round against Mansfield Legacy.
The Bearcats trailed 4-1 as the game moved to the bottom of the sixth inning. Aledo loaded the bases with one out as Sean O'Donnell swatted a single and Austin Lawler and Rylan Riney each drew a walk.
Deciding third game at 2 p.m. Saturday (May 8) at Saginaw High School
The Aledo Bearcats had at least one runner on base in every inning but failed to score as Lake Dallas defeated AHS, 4-0, to knot up their best-of-three bi-district playoff series at a game apiece Friday night in Corinth.
The third and deciding game of the series will be played at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, May 8) at Saginaw High School.
Jonny Drozd earned the win with a complete-game effort, while Calvin Loftis took the loss.
The Bearcats had two runners on base in each of the first and second innings but failed to push a run across the plate. Matt Bishop and Lawton Rinker each singled in the opening frame with one out, but Drozd retired the next two Aledo batters to get out of the jam.

Also, AHS senior Anna Flinchbaugh finished fifth in editorial writing.
Currently - with only a few results posted - Aledo High School has recorded 17.25 points with Hallsville leading with 55 points.
