Aledo Bearcats quarterbacks coach Blake Christenson instructs young signal-caller hopefuls last year at the Bearcats Football Camp. Camp will run Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2-5, and late registration is available.
The 2010 Bearcat Football camp will be held Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2-5 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the AHS practice fields for students entering grades 3-9.
Cost is $80 per camper, and late registration is available on all camp days.
Family rates include $120 for two campers and $160 for three or more campers.
Aledo ISD trustees Bobby Rigues and Jay Stringer recently completed a trip to Austin where the duo were guests of Equity Center Radio, a weekly podcast broadcast on the Equity Center Web site, to explain the 'Make Education a Priority' letter writing campaign.
On the podcast – which can be archived from the Equity Center Web site (www.equitycenter.org) - Rigues and Stringer reveal their grassroots efforts to reach out to the Aledo ISD community and the state to gain support for overhauling the current school finance system that was put in place in 2006.

In an e-mail to Willow Park Mayor Ken Hawkins, the mayors of the cities of East Parker County and the media, Hudson Oaks Mayor Pat Deen is officially backing his city out of any discussions to merge Aledo, Hudson Oaks, Willow Park and the Annettas.
"The primary reason is the concern for the impact of property taxes, when we already have exceptional services provided to our residents without the need for property taxes," Deen said in his e-mail.
Following the Aledo City Council meeting Thursday night, Aledo Mayor Kit Marshall said she will not partake in any regional meetings that involve the merging of the six cities.
Hawkins said he will still advocate and lobby for his proposal.

Rusty Burson and the Aggie Yell Leaders will team up with the Parker County Aggie Moms’ Club on Saturday, July 24 to provide an evening of entertainment and fund raising for a student scholarships.
The sixth annual Howdy Party will run from from 6-8 p.m. at the Doss Heritage Center in Weatherford. Steeped in tradition, the event celebrates the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. The entire community, Texas A&M University fans, current and future students, and alumni are all invited.

Grant Blaeser, a soldier in the U.S. Army who was deployed to Afghanistan, was seriously injured during a suicide bomb attack July 2 and is still receiving treatment for his injuries.
Blaeser lost his left leg from the knee down in Afghanistan and was transferred to Walter Reed hospital in Maryland. According to Blaeser's mother, the doctors were able to save his left arm. He will remain in Walter Reed for the next few weeks. His family will return to Aledo next week.
Blaeser's parents, James and Patti Blaeser live in Aledo.
Ashlee Michelle Mitchell will be paying fees and fines after pleading no contest to a speeding ticket she received in May.
Mitchell, a Weatherford ISD school bus driver for Durham School Services, was ticketed in Willow Park last May for driving 22 mph over the speed limit with children on board the vehicle.
She is making payment arrangements with Willow Park Municipal Court to pay a total of $173.10 in fines and fees.

The driver of the sedan that flipped over along Kelly Road in Aledo July 8 has been identified.
Frieda Mae Carmichall, 72, of Aledo was traveling north on Kelly Road when she approached a curve at an unsafe speed, according to the Department of Public Safety. Carmichall apparently overcorrected her 1995 Oldsmobile which caused the tan-colored vehicle to flip to its left and roll before landing on its top.
Carmichall was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
According to a nursing supervisor, she is listed in serious condition.
Former All-District 6-4A first-team second baseman Kendall Kizer will play for the West squad at 7 p.m. today (Tuesday, July 13) at the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A/4A All-Star Game at the Workman Complex in Arlington.
Pre-game ceremonies begin at 6:30 p.m.
Kizer will play softball next year at Vernon College.
The all-star game is part of the annual week-long TGCA summer clinic.
The 3A/2A/1A game will begin at 4:30 p.m. today at the Workman Complex. Brock's Meghan Bailey will be playing for the West team.
