Statement from Aledo ISD:
Aledo ISD will begin school on Wednesday, Dec. 11 two hours later due to continued icy conditions on secondary roads. All bus routes and schools will begin their schedule tomorrow two hours later than normal.
The District will continue to monitor road conditions in the early morning hours to ensure that the two-hour delay is the best strategy for our students. Please continue to monitor the District website for any possible changes to this schedule.
Aledo ISD Athletic Director Tim Buchanan has confirmed that the state semifinal football game between Aledo and Ennis will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in Midlothian. Ticket details to be announced.
It's technically not winter yet, but... send us your winter storm photos for possible inclusion in the next issue of The Community News and/or our Facebook site.
Aledo ISD will not hold classes on Monday, Dec. 9. Aledo ISD crews will be working to clear parking lots and sidewalks during the day.
It goes without saying that the weather has made local travel treacherous if not impossible.
This morning church services have been canceled, and local roads remain impassible.
We are advised that FM 1187 in Aledo is a "solid sheet of ice." Some melting is expected today as temperatures climb above freezing, but that is likely to make the situation even worse in terms of gaining traction.
There are no apparent plans on the part of TxDot to sand 1187 or any other Farm to Market roads at this time. We will provide updates as they are available.
According to the Aledo ISD website, the State Quarterfinal football game between Aledo and Wichita Falls will be played on Monday at a time and site to be determined.
As many cancer patients will tell you, their daily battle with cancer is often hard and unpredictable. What we often admire most in these brave individuals is the courage with which they face each new day’s challenges, and must shift their priorities to accommodate each day’s opportunities and necessities.
While we, our sponsors, our volunteers, and our celebrities have looked forward to the Celebrity Cutting event with much love and labor, we must also make sure our priorities accommodate the best interests of our community. As we consider our mission to sustain and enhance the lives of cancer patients, we must conclude that no single event is worth putting anyone’s health or safety in jeopardy.
While the event is one important evidence of the outpouring of love and generosity that comes from the heart of our supporters, we are grateful that our supporters also understand the need to look out foremost for everyone’s well-being.
The Celebrity Cutting event for 2013 has been cancelled. Because so many people and animals from so many walks of life are involved, and the venue is unique and cannot be duplicated, and celebrities’ calendars are filled months in advance, we are unable to reschedule the event. We must instead look ahead to 2014, when the Celebrity Cutting event will bravely return for our 20th Anniversary.
Thanks to the contributions of everyone who has supported this year’s event, the work of the Careity Foundation in patients’ lives will continue. We are so grateful for each of our amazing supporters.
