House fire: A firefighter sprays down hot spots in the smoldering remains of a house fire Monday afternoon.
Charred walls, burned baseball cards and the brick façade is all that’s left of a vacant house destroyed by a fire Monday afternoon.
Firefighters from the Benbrook Fire Department arrived on the scene to find flames shooting out of the back of the house.
“A lot of the contents of the floor was burning from the floor all the way up,” Benbrook Fire Chief Tommy Davis said. “How it started, that’s all under investigation.”
George and Mary Ward who live behind the property along Linkmeadow Drive, near the border of Parker and Tarrant counties, called 9-1-1 after hearing popping on the site.

Birdville had cut the AHS lead to 2-1 with 5:56 left in the match on a goal by forward Anthony Bardon. The Hawks, using a strong win at their backs in the second half, continued to put on pressure in the Bearcats' defensive end.

Aledo goalkeeper Woody turns back late Hawks' charge to preserve win
Aledo senior goalkeeper Justen Woody turned back three late Birdville shots from close range, including a breakaway with two and a half minutes remaining in the match, to help the Bearcats to a 2-1 victory over Birdville Friday night in a Class 4A sectional match at Brewer High School.
The win advances the Bearcats (23-1-1) to the regional quarterfinals where they will face the winner of the Midlothian/Crowley sectional match.
Birdville had cut the AHS lead to 2-1 with 5:56 left in the match on a goal by forward Anthony Bardon. The Hawks, using a strong win at their backs in the second half, continued to put on pressure in the Bearcats' defensive end.
With 2:36 remaining, a Birdville attacker was free on a breakaway in the middle, and when he cut to his left the forward tried to poke the ball inside the left post to Woody's right, but Woody made a diving effort to come up with the save.
"I knew I had the angle played right," Woody said. "I just dove and stretched my arms out as far as I could and I deflected the ball out of bounds."
Tanner Linn, normally the varsity baseball manager at Aledo High, got to suit up and play for the team's game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington against Midlothian.

The Bearcats will advance to the sectional (third) round where they will face Birdville at 7 p.m. Friday, March 26, at Brewer High School.
Aledo led 2-0 after the first half. Nickell got the Bearcats on the board when he scored after a feed from Marwan.
The Bearcats' lead grew to two goals when Marwan found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Davis.
Old High cut the lead in half, 2-1, with a goal a minute and a half into the second half.
But Aledo got the score back on a Davis goal with Marwan earning the assist that extended the Bearcats' lead to 3-1.
The Bearcats closed the scoring later in the second half on a goal from Nickell with Davis recording the assist.
