Ladycats smash 18 hits in 15-7 victory over Azle

Bailee Whitener and Alana Smith each recorded four hits to lead an 18-hit Aledo attack as the Ladycats defeated Azle, 15-7, in a District 6-5A softball game Monday night at Azle.

The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 3-0. Aledo will continue district play at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at home against Eaton.

Smith finished with three singles and a home run while driving in a game-high five runs. Whitener added three singles and a double and drove in a pair of runs. Caden Cunningham recorded three RBI, and Macy Hale registered three hits, including two doubles.

Megan Reynolds went the distance and was the winning pitcher. She allowed five earned runs on 10 hits with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings.

Aledo scored six runs in the top of the third inning for a 6-1 lead, but Azle countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game, 6-6.

The Ladycats added a pair of runs in the fifth, and Azle got one run back in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 8-7. Aledo put the game away with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.
