Ladycats' win sets up District 6-5A first-place showdown on Tuesday; No. 2 Northwest runs past Bearcats

Aledo broke open a close game with 15-0 run in the second quarter and a 13-0 run in the third as the state-ranked No. 16 Ladycats eased past Northwest, 54-31, in a girls' District 6-5A basketball game Friday night at Northwest High School.

The win raises the Ladycats' district record to 12-1, while Northwest drops to 0-13. The Ladycats will play for a share of the district championship when they host 13-0 Boswell on Tuesday.

Tip off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Aledo High School gym.

Taylor Morgan and Elizabeth Allanach each scored 14 points to lead the Ladycats. Also scoring were Sarah Haeussler with 10 points, Janessa Payne with nine, freshman Audrey Pearce with three, and Chandler Arnold and Reagan Brown, each with two.

The game was tied 12-12 after the first quarter. Aledo scored 15 points in the second period while holding Northwest to four to take a 27-16 lead at the half. The Ladycats outscored the Lady Texans 15-2 in the third quarter to take a 42-18 lead into the final stanza.

No. 2 Northwest 81, Bearcats 36

Northwest jumped out to a 16-4 lead and never looked back as the state-ranked No. 2 Texans defeated the Aledo Bearcats, 81-36, Friday night in a boys' District 6-5A basketball game at Northwest High School.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 3-8 in district play, while Northwest moves to 11-0. The Bearcats will continue district play at 8 p.m. Tuesday at home against Boswell.

Leo Bell scored 12 points to lead the Bearcats. Also scoring were Ayden Smith with 11 points, Cameron Callaway with five, Noah Arrington with four, and Cameron Yates and Truen Johnson, each with two.
