Aledo ISD Athletic Director Tim Buchanan has informed The Community News that this afternoon he sent an appeal to the University Interscholastic League appealing the placement of Aledo High School volleyball and basketball teams in District 4-5A  for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school year.

On Thursday, the UIL, announced during its biennial redistricting, that Aledo volleyball and basketball teams would be placed in District 4-5A along with Granbury, Abilene Wylie, Abilene Cooper, Wichita Falls High School and Wichita Falls Rider.

Travel time and distance to Abilene and Wichita Falls is the gist of the appeal.

"I have been instructed by our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Derek Citty, to appeal the UIL Realignment of Aledo High School into District 4-5A in the sports of volleyball and basketball for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years," Buchanan said. "By rule we must first ask the high schools being affected by this appeal for permission to change districts.

"Aledo is asking to be removed from 4-5A and placed in District 5-5A for volleyball and basketball due to extreme travel."

Schools have until Feb. 11 to appeal.
