Boswell wins District 6-5A title with victory over Ladycats; Bearcats fall out of playoff contention after dropping 60-51 decision to Pioneers

Boswell went on a 23-11 run in the second quarter on its way to a 78-39 win over the Aledo Ladycats as the Lady Pioneers won the girls' District 6-5A basketball championship Tuesday night at Aledo.

The Ladycats finish the 6-5A slate with a 12-2 record and will be the league's second seed in the Class 5A playoffs that begin next week.

Boswell senior guard and Texas-bound Audrey Warren scored 32 points to lead all scorers.

Aledo post Sarah Haeussler led the Ladycats with nine points while also pulling down 12 rebounds. Also scoring were Riley Sale with eight points, Janessa Payne with seven, Taylor Morgan with five, Elizabeth Allanach with four, and Reagan Brown and Audrey Pearce, each with three.

Boswell led 16-9 after the first quarter and 39-20 at the half. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Ladycats 15-9 in the third period to take a 54-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Boswell 60, Bearcats 51

Boswell's 15-8 run in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Pioneers held off a late Aledo charge to defeat the Bearcats, 60-51, Tuesday night in boys' District 6-5A action at AHS.

The loss drops the Bearcats to 3-9 in district play and out of contention for a playoff spot.

Boswell led 17-15 after the opening period, but Aledo outscored the Pioneers 18-16 in the second quarter to tie the game, 33-33, at the half. The Pioneers outscored the Bearcats by seven points in the third period and 12-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Senior point guard Cameron Yates led the Bearcats with 13 points. Also scoring were Noah Arrington with 10 points, Ayden Smith with nine, Tre Owens with eight, Leo Bell with four, Austin Hawkins with three, and Truen Johnson and Hunter Vela, each with two.

Smith also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
