Calloway Shands stroked a line-drive base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive in Tripp Jones to lift the Aledo Bearcats to a 5-4 victory over Richland in the opening game of a best-of-3 area championship series Thursday night at Chisholm Trail High School.
Game 2 will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Chisholm Trail.
With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Aledo catcher Gehrig Mosiello led off with a base hit. Jones came in to courtesy run for Mosiello at first base. The next batter, Garrison Berkley, laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Jones to second base. Two batters later, Shands hit the game-winning base hit to plate Jones as the Bearcats took a 5-4 win.
The Bearcats trailed 4-2 as they entered the bottom of the seventh inning. Hunter Rosson singled and scored on a double by Jacob Arizpe, and Arizpe scored to tie the game on a double by Nathen Fingar.
Aledo relief pitcher Briley Rodriguez earned his second win of the playoffs, pitching the final three innings.
Eaton 7, Ladycats 6
Eaton had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning with two outs before a base hit to right field drove in the winning run as the Lady Eagles defeated the Aledo Ladyats, 7-6, Thursday night in the opener of a best-of-3 regional quarterfinals series at Chisholm Trail High School.
Game 2 is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Chisholm Trail.
The Ladycats has taken a 6-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning when Hannah Andrews ripped a triple to right field to plate Lindsey McElroy and Megan Reynolds.
But in the bottom of the seventh frame Eaton scored three runs on a three-run home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
