Aledo junior shortstop Hunter Rosson recorded a pair of hits – including an inside-the-park home run – reached base four times and drove in four runs to lead the Bearcats to a convincing 11-2 victory over Richland to sweep a Class 5A area championship baseball series Friday night at Chisholm Trail High School.

The Bearcats will advance to the regional quarterfinals and face the winner of the Grapevine/Sherman series.

Rosson led off the game by hitting a towering shot that almost cleared the fence. But the ball hit the top of the wall and caromed to the right and past the Richland centerfielder, allowing Rosson to touch all four bases.

Aledo added a run in the third and fourth innings, and in the fifth and sixth innings scored two more runs in each frame for a 7-0 advantage. In the bottom of the sixth, Richland scored two runs to cut the lead to 7-2.

However, thanks in part to a three-run double by Rosson, the Bearcats added four runs in the seventh to close the scoring.

Kannon Brown was the winning pitcher for the ‘Cats. The senior allowed one earned run on two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings. Trevor Stone finished the game in relief, allowing no runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts in 1-1/3 innings.

Ladycats 3, Eaton 1

Down 1-0 and with just four outs left to play with, the Aledo Ladycats scored three two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Eaton Lady Eagles Friday night at Chisholm Trail High School to square the best-of-3 regional quarterfinals series at a game apiece.

Game 3 will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chisholm Trail. The winner will advance to the regional semifinals and face the winner of the El Paso Chapin/El Paso Eastlake series.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lindsey McElroy and Mykayla Stroud each reached on infield hits to put runners on first and second base. The next batter, Megan Reynolds, lined a single to right-centerfield to drive in McElroy to tie the game, 1-1. But on the play, Eaton pitcher Madelyn Wright, attempting a throw back to first base as Reynolds made a large turn, threw the ball into the dugout, and by rule Stroud was allowed to score and Reynolds advanced to second base as Aledo led 2-1.

Hannah Andrews followed and crushed a single to right-centerfield to plate Reynolds for a 3-1 lead. Andrews, the Ladycats’ starting pitcher, threw her sixth consecutive shutout inning in the top of the seventh to seal the win and keep the Ladycats alive in the playoffs.

Andrews was the winning pitcher. The senior allowed one run on five hits with one walk and one strikeout in seven innings.
