Ladycats get past Ryan, 3-2, in bi-district playoffs

Aledo came back from a one-goal halftime deficit to come away with a 3-2 victory over Denton Ryan Friday night in a Class 5A girls' bi-district playoff match at Bronco Field in Denton.

The Ladycats will advance to the area championship against Richland. The match will be played at 6 p.m. Thursday at Brewer High School.

The Ladycats scored quickly at the beginning of each half.

Peyton Laughley gave the Ladycats a 1-0 when she found the back of the net from 10 yards with 35:10 left in the opening half. Krista Thrasher earned the assist.

Ryan tied the match with 16:35 left in the first half, and just before the half ended added another score to take a 2-1 lead at the half.

The Ladycats tied the match, 2-2, when Thrasher scored from 25 yards on the left side.

Aledo took a 3-2 lead with 12:56 left to play when Cameron Huddleston fed Brooke Jones on the left side, and Jones split two defenders before firing a goal from 10 yards out.

Aledo goalkeeper Makenzie Covington made two spectacular saves - including one on a point-blank shot from inside the box - late in the second half to preserve the victory.
