First-place Aledo High School soccer teams handle Brewer

Both Aledo High School soccer teams remain in first place after victories over Brewer Friday night in respective District 6-5A matches.

Ladycats 2, Brewer 1

On Senior Night, senior midfiedler Cameron Huddleston's goal with 22:02 left to play turned out to be the winning goal in the Ladycats' victory over the Lady Bears at bearcat Stadium..

Aledo goalkeeper Makenzie Covington came up with two saves late to preserve the win.

On the match-winning goal, junior forward Krista Thrasher, racing down the right sideline, scooted a pass to the middle to a streaking Huddleston, who finished the play with a hard shot from 10 yards to beat the Brewer 'keeper.

The Ladycats took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Kristen Burns scored from close range off a rebound.

Brewer tied the match, 1-1, 10 minutes into the second half.

Bearcats 3, Brewer 0

Clinching at least a tie for first place, the Bearcats blanked the Bears, 3-0, Friday night at Brewer.

Danny De La Cerda, Max Owens and Reed Vierling reach scored a goal. De La Cerda's goal was unassisted, while Tanner Van Curen earned the assist on Owens' score. Alfredo Huerta-Martin recorded the assist on Vierling's goal.

Senior goalkeeper Caleb Hill earned the shutout.

Both team continue district play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Northwest. The Bearcats will host the Texans while the Ladycats travel to Northwest.
