Chisholm Trail comes back to down Ladycats, 2-1, in District 6-5A softball opener

Posted

Chisholm Trail scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on to take a 2-1 win over the Aledo Ladycats Tuesday night in the District 6-5A softball opener at Chisholm Trail High School.

Chisholm Trail was limited to four hits off Aledo senior pitcher Hannah Andrews, two of which were infield hits. Andrews struck out six and walked only one in six innings.

The Ladycats got on the board in the top of the first inning. Lindsey McElroy led off with a double and advanced to third base after a sacrifice bunt from Mykayla Stroud. Two batters later, Andrews drove in McElroy with an infield single as the Ladycats took an early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Chisholm Trail had runners on first and second base with two outs before a double plated two runners as the hosts took a 2-1 lead.

It appeared the Ladycats had tied the score in the sixth inning when Bailee Whitener hit a blast to center field. But the ball hit the top portion of the fence for a double. However, Chisholm Trail sent down the next two Aledo batters to end the scoring threat.

In the top of the seventh inning, McElroy reached base on a two-out single, but Chisholm Trail forced a ground out to the next batter to end the game.
