Brown strikes out 17 to lead Bearcats past Azle in District 6-5A opener

Posted

Aledo senior pitcher Kannon Brown struck out 17 Azle batters and allowed just two hits to lead the Bearcats to a 6-1 victory over the Hornets Tuesday night in the District 6-5A baseball opener at Aledo High School.

Brown did not issue a walk in seven innings, and one of Azle's hits was a bunt single.

Aledo gave Brown all the runs he would need by scoring four times in the bottom of the second inning. Three of the runs came on three Azle errors, and Garrison Berkley's base hit to extend the lead to 4-0 was the only RBI in the frame.

An Azle error led to two runs in the fourth inning. Nathan Fingar and Caden Jarvis each swatted a single to reach base and both scored on a throwing error to increase the Bearcats' lead to 6-0.

Azle closed the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Bearcats will continue district play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Eaton High School.
