First-place Aledo soccer teams sweep Azle in District 6-5A action

Both the Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats soccer teams recorded shutout wins over Azle in respective District 6-5A matches Tuesday night.

Bearcats 4, Azle 0

Max Owens registered a hat trick and Jarrod Nelson earned two assists to lift the Bearcats over the Hornets at Bearcat Stadium.

Owens opened the scoring early in the match with a 15-yard blast after a Nelson throw in. Eight minutes later Owens struck again, this time from 12 yards in the middle after a feed from Alvero Huerta-Martin for a 2-0 lead.

The Bearcats added to their lead when Danny De La Cerda directed a header into the net following a Nelson throw in. The 3-0 score held up at the half.

The Bearcats closed the scoring in the second half when Owens found the back of the net from 20 yards in the middle with Kevin Pradez earning the assist.

Ladycats 8, Azle 0

Peyton Laughley scored four goals to lead the Ladycats to an eight-goal victory at Azle.

Skyler Heitz added a pair of goals, while Reagan Knesek and Hunter Jones each found the back of the net.

Ashlee Brookshire led all play makers with three assists, with Cameron Huddleston and Brooke Jones each adding a pair of helpers.
