Two steps to state: Ladycats face Canyon Randall today in regional semifinals

Posted

After sweeping Denison, Richland and Grapevine in successive playoff matches, the Aledo Ladycats have reached the regional volleyball tournament and will face Canyon Randall in the regional semifinals.

The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kimbrell Arena at McMurry University in Abilene. The winner of the match will advance to the regional finals and face the winner of the Boswell/No. 1 Amarillo semifinal. That semifinal match will start at 5 p.m. today.

Randall reached the regional semifinals by defeating San Angelo Lake View, El Paso Eastlake and district-rival Hereford.

Ladycats head coach Kathy Goings said Randall has strong net play, and that the match may be decided on which team plays best up front.

"Randall has a left handed right side senior that is good and and a strong outside that we will need to stop," she said. "We will need to block and get touches on blocks to slow down their hitters.  Our girls know what they have to do. Our senior leadership so far through the start of these playoffs has been outstanding."

The regional final match is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Kimbrell Arena with the winner advancing to the state tournament in Garland.
