No. 16 Ladycats knot up District 6-5A volleyball race with victory over No. 5 Boswell

Aledo senior hitter Maddie Goings sent down a match-high 27 kills and senior middle Emily Smith added 13 as the pair helped the state-ranked No. 16 Ladycats to a 25-17, 20-25, 26-24, 25-21 victory over No. 5 Boswell Tuesday night in a key District 6-5A match at Boswell High School.

The Ladycats win avenges an earlier loss to the Lady Pioneers, but more importantly puts Aledo in a first-place tie with Boswell as both sit atop the district standings with identical 9-1 marks.

"Our blocking was better from the first time we played them, and we attacked the ball strongly tonight," Ladycats head coach Kathy Goings said. "We ran routes, we had then guessing and we put the ball away. We also got on some (scoring) runs, and we never let Boswell get on some runs like they did the first time we played them.

"Defensively, I thought the girls did a good job of holding the points down. Ladycat pride came through tonight for sure. When this team plays together like they did tonight they are pretty much unstoppable."

Aledo senior setter Erin Weiss registered a match-high 58 assists, and junior libero Allegra Rivas led the Ladycats with 22 digs.

In sub-varsity play, the Ladycats junior varsity remains undefeated and in first place in 6-5A after a convincing 25-9, 25-18 sweep of Boswell, but the Ladycats freshman team fell, 27-25, 25-14.
